Re: Mainstream Go Sightings
In 后宫甄嬛传 (Legend of Zhen Huan), Go shows up every few episodes as it is the game of choice that the Emperor likes to play with the Duke and his favorite concubine. I just wish they would show the board more clearly so I can see if it's a legit game

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings
In this presentation video about Board Gaming's golden age, you can see an old picture of Go being played. It's a very brief slide, and not mentioned by name, but as a part of the concept of boardgaming being a part of human culture for a long time now.

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings
I didn't read the entire thread, so I hope this hasn't been posted yet. But If it hasn't, it should be.
A Beautiful Mind had a go scene. Russel Crow gets upset when he loses, storms off and claims the game is flawed because he had the first move and still lost.

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings
A friend of a friend posted this in Facebook:
She commented "意外なお趣味が(笑)" which I believe is "Doraemon surprises us (laugh)", but can't be sure(google translation).

Hey nice find. Btw, I would translate that as "a surprising hobby (lol)"

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings
Google translation said "hobby surprises us", and I assumed hobby was doraemon's name in the japanese original, stupidly.Jedo wrote:Hey nice find. Btw, I would translate that as "a surprising hobby (lol)"

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings
Maybe not mainstream but the famous Jon Shafer (computer game designer) wrote an article mentioning Go:

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings
Kind of a lame sighting, but in the anime Mawaru Penguindrum there's a floor board in one of the character's rooms.

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings
A Go friend on FB recently posted a link to this image on what I think is the Vietnamese Go Association's facebook page:
I think it's pretty cool!
Anyone know anything about it?

Yeah, I thought about that later. :pbadukJr wrote:I think a country's go association posting something go related is hardly mainstream
But a 7x21 board! is this Vietnam style?
Maybe I should start a Go Artwork thread?

It's by Andrea Hyon Taylor and illustrates a Korean folk tale.Phelan wrote: Anyone know anything about it?
