I was a little dispirited by the thread, until I looked at the actual poll results. I guess we have a silent majority of people who think it's a bit silly.

Dispirited by the thread? I apologize for this being a curiosity. Maybe it is a bit silly, but I felt it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I still don't find any clues about this thing.
I'm seldom drinking soda, maybe when I have a dinner with my fellows. and I can count it with my finger how many I go with them and drinking soda in a few months. I'll try to give it a try in the upcaming tourney.I'll tell u the result.

I'm not sure I'd say it would hurt to ask. But it's sad to see so many people embracing sheer speculation and overstating things.

I do think that if you want to be in perfect form to engage in intellectual activity, you should consider your physical health, your metabolism and your energy levels. And soda isn't great, because it's pure sugar. So there's a small effect. But I really do think it's marginal. If you have diabetes, then that's a big deal, but it's pretty clear that people who live an active life, generally eat reasonably can be in fine health while drinking soda.

Then there's the caffeine. There's a mixed bag of studies, some suggesting caffeine is beneficial to certain cognitive functions, others suggesting that it might be bad for certain other functions. All the effects are pretty small, and then there's the general improvement in wakefulness. But anyway, there's an incredibly small amount of caffeine in soda: less than a cup of black tea, a third or less than a coffee. My wife is extremely sensitive, and feels sick and jittery from even one cup of coffee, sometimes even from black tea, but she can still drink soda without trouble.
