I have recently decided to try out memorizing some pro games as part of my study of go. I decided to start by learning some of Shusaku's games since they are available in the Many Faces of Go archives. To my confusion, many of the games seem not to be complete. Many of them are simply resigned without the announcing the winner in the SGF (counting is hard:[ ), but some give final scores when you open the file.

A specific example is this game between Shusaku (7D) and Yashui Sanchi (6D)

Obviously the game is not over. There are still a few endgame moves left. Why does the SGF stop here? White needs to defend 2 stones at j15, and there is an undefined territory line around E14. Add a defensive move for B around L7 and the score does end up as B+11, but why not include the last few moves? Is it a mistake in this particular database, or is this how the game has been notated everywhere?

A lot of older games have been transmitted to us through handwritten copies of games. Often the transcriber stopped recording moves after the outcome was clear and just reported the final score or result.

the one at L7 bugs me a little... but the rest are dame. It doesn't matter who plays first, the result will remain unchanged.

dame are often not recorded.

and for the games that end in resignation... the last color to play is the winner (usually :) )
