Hi everyone, I've got a bunch of stuff I need to get rid of and I've no idea how much these things are worth (gifts, etc). Could somebody help me out identifying the board / stones / bowl type? The board is about 6cm thick - I'm pretty sure everything was bought from here: http://www.kurokigoishi.co.jp/english/index.html

Here's a list of books I own:

The little pink books are called "Go Problems for Kyu Level Players" by William S. Cobb - there are two volumes
There are five books in chinese (with translations written by whomever gave me the books!) - I think they are these ones http://senseis.xmp.net/?WeiqiZhongjiJietiXunlian
"Attack and Defense" by Akira Ishida & James Davies
"Opening Theory Made Easy" by Otake Hideo
"The Direction of Play" by Takeo Kajiwara
"Graded Go Problems for Beginners" - Volume 1 - by Kano Yoshinori
"Dictionary of Basic Joseki 1" by Yoshio Ishida
"Dictionary of Basic Joseki 3" by Yoshio Ishida
"Learn to Play Go" by Janice Kim and Jeong Soo-hyun - there are 5 volumes

Here are some pictures:

Does anybody want to buy any of this stuff? :P

(I live in Australia but we can probably work something out with shipping)

Sorry I'm not rich enough to make you an offer on the board & stones, but it might help if you could get a photo of the 'grain'/stripes of the white clam shell stones, i.e. as discussed here:

http://www.kurokigoishi.co.jp/english/quality/selection.html

It's really hard for me to get a good, non-blurry picture :( - does this help?

That helps a little. From the blurry photo, it looks like Standard Grade (Jitsuyo) or maybe Moon Grade, but probably not Snow Grade.
(Standard grade = Nice. Moon grade = Finer grains. Snow grade = Finest grain patterns, "like snow.")

1. Does your camera have "macro" focus? Usually, the icon for it is a little flower. See attached photo.
If it does, use it for close-up photos.

2. The price of the shell stones depends greatly on their thickness
(not the diameter, which is quite standard, around 22 mm).
Your shell stones should be about 7mm to 10mm thick:
size 33 = 9.2mm
size 34 = 9.5mm
size 35 = 9.8mm
size 36 = 10.1mm
size 37 = 10.4mm
size 38 = 10.7mm

If you still have the original Kuroki boxes, they should show the exact grade
(Standard or Moon) and the Size.
If you don't have the boxes any more, you can measure the thickness with
a micrometer or caliper:

http://www.amazon.com/Inch-Digital-Cali ... pd_cp_hi_3

An idea is to measure about 10 stones for a good sampling.
Similarly, it's good to post photos of multiple shell stones here (preferably in focus),
so it's easier to identify the grade level.

Thanks.

It's hard to estimate the price without more information, but a similar set of board, bowls, and stones from Kuroki Goishiten : http://www.kurokigoishi.co.jp/english/o ... ndex2.html
retails for JPY41000 which is currently about AUD492. If they are in like-new condition maybe you could ask AUD350 and see what happens.

It really depends on shipping costs ...
Go books on their own are not that expensive.

Why don't you put all the books on ebay ?

I would split them up though in 3 lots:
- Beginner books:
- Dictionaries
- Asian books

You can still offer combined shipping if somebody wins more than one lot.

The goban and stones are harder to sell ...
These things are hard to sell internationally via ebay,
because shipping costs tend to get unreasonably high.

Why don't you try asking around at the Australian Go Association?
http://www.australiango.asn.au/

They even have a list of clubs in Australia so maybe you could ask around at a club close to where you live.

As EdLee already said the best thing you can do is to check if your camera has a macro function. I am actually pretty sure that your camera has such a function. I use the macro function from time to time and it really works good. I mainly use it for flowers because I often order flowers online and they are always so beautiful and due to this I always shoot pictures. If you want pics of the blossoms the macro function is the best option and I think it should also work for you.
