AAAAHHH! That move is so painful to make! To be honest, I don't even see how black can live locally. But even if he can somehow live in gote, surely it's game over after something like this:

Either black is planning something really nifty against white's bottom left group, or he just got owned...

@Gaius:

I was thinking just the same thing. My respect for magicwand continues to grow, he's downright dangerous in a complicated game.

What an exciting game!

@ Araban:
It seems that you are under a lot of pressure now with two unsettled groups. On the other hand, your comments suggest that you are still very calm. Is this because you are assessing the situation differently or is it because you are generally staying calm even when under pressure? (I think losing one's calm is one of the fundamental mistakes that should be avoided as much as possible.)

I'd like to think that I'm just staying calm. Certainly I don't think I'm assessing the situation differently, I realize it's not good and that I need to play catch up. One of the reasons I've been keeping my comments brief at this stage in the game is that writing a lengthy post detailing a pessimistic scenario and analyzing variations after variations that do not work will just decrease my confidence level.

I also think my activity with SC2's affected me in this regard. Before I got involved with SC2, I would get extremely agitated in these kind of situations when I play online. Now, I tend to be rather carefree and my adrenaline level, even in the craziest of fights, seems to stay low. I don't get the sweaty palms or the high heart rate I used to when I play against KGS 5d+s, and I don't think it's because I improved haha. It's strange, but when you play a game that feels like Go/chess at 10,000 mph, Go just seems so much more relaxing to me now.

With 105 black gets an eye, and if white caps with something like 'a', black 'b' either escapes to the right or gets the second eye.

I've just got to wait until the storm subsides and hopefully, by the end of the storm, have two stabilized groups. :b5: just tries to move out one of them. He will probably just try to put pressure on one until it settles, then use whatever he's gained in that attack to go for the other group. He could also, of course, go back and forth in attacking one group or the other. But whatever it'll end eventually, one way or the other.

Wow, nice commentary on your last move. Magicwand!

Very interesting stuff too -- I agree that tons and tons of diagrams can just be overwhelming sometimes, but those comments are really nice. This whole game has been superb from both players, really, but especially Magicwand seems to have gone above and beyond this time.

i have noticed that when i play handycap game i dont really concentrate much as this game.
for the futur i think i will stick to even game because it force me to think to my maximum potential.

i will keep the quality of my comment very high.

If I was Araban now, I would die from curiosity. I could probably not keep myself from looking at MWs comment. Not for cheating but just out of curiosity :)
That's one of the reasons why I am reluctant to play malkovich games.

But that one is a very interesting game indeed.

i am sure my opponent is strong enough to guess what is in my hidden.
i believe that he reads everything that i read.
although i am curious why he played some moves i didnt expect...
i will find out soon enough.

It does clearly show. (I've noticed the lack of hide tags in my game vs Magicwand)
usually just one very inspired player in a malkovich game and only the really good ones have both.

Okay, so this was a bit of a dilemma. If I want to live, I need to respond to W's last move to ensure I have enough eyespace to make two eyes. In an ideal world, I'd...

* Save H7 which keeps aji on both of his groups.
* Be guaranteed life for both groups.
* Not be sealed in.

Unfortunately we don't live in an ideal world so I need to pick and choose with what I can do here. After some pondering, I've decided that moving out is higher priority than living here*. Of course if he responds to my move to try and keep me sealed in, I can always change my mind later but my mindset is on moving out here while putting my life on the line because, by not responding to his move, my eyespace is pretty much ruined.

* After watching some zombie films, I can't help but be reminded of movie scenes where the survivors need to decide between moving out to find food and supplies, or to stay where they are and hope help arrives soon.

:). I just finished my last final exam yesterday, so I'm sorry everyone for the delay. Strangely enough, I did better on my stochastic calculus class than in my intro psychology class...

I can't let any of my groups get sealed in, so this move is a must. For those who don't realize the value of this move, picture White playing here. How can Black live now?
