Online playing schedule: I play somewhat sporadically.
what Go would be like if the star-point intersections were removed. That would be interesting, I feel. :)

Do you mean completely removed - as in a non-playable space like a wall?

Probably a lot like playing a cheap guitar without fret markers, or any type of fretless string instrument.. or I suppose a trombone as well. Not impossible just requires counting and the ocasional upset when you miscount

Interesting. What if we take the analogy of the go board as a battlefield and say certain areas cannot be occupied? We could rule out groups of points here and there as a lake or otherwise inaccessible terrain, marking them as such with a suitable token such as upside-down yunzis, and treating them as borders for the purposes of L&D and capture. It could make a fun side-game at a tournament.

In the book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" (Game of Thrones) They play a game called Cyvaase which I am reminded of from the idea of impassable terrains. It's a chess style game. They way you play is you put up a screen in the middle of the board while each side uses tiles to create a map. You can have mountains and rives and the like. Each with their our restrictions on movement. You remove the screen once your setup is complete. You have around 5 or so different pieces, but you only have 1 of each. The point, like most Chess, is to capture the King.
I really hope someone makes a real, playable version of it.

Sorry if it was off topic, It just sounded similar with the idea of terrains.

Hmmm. It's an 8x8 board in the books, Like a chess board. That's cool that someone tried though. (Yes, It looks like I am going to be a stickler about this ^_^ ) There are also 2 more books left so rules could possibly change or be added or something.
I like the idea though. Like a cross between chess and stratigo.

Basilisk Go Server had a mode like this, if I remember correctly. Or was it another server?
