The Summer 2015 of the GoGoD database is now available on gogodonline.co.uk.

This new edition has 84,383 games, but there have been some especially luscious berries in the latest crop.

In particular, games missing from the collected games of Go Seigen (4), Kitani Minoru (2), Hashimoto Utaro (3) and Shusai (7) have been added. One of the Kitani games is noteworthy as being a shin-fuseki handicap game (he plays at the 5-5 point!).

Also, one Go-Kitani game was already known but the source was faulty (and so our version previously stopped at move 135). We have now been able to add almost 200 moves and the reason for the faulty source has become apparent - it was a very peculiar game. It is a very rare example of a dame fight (about 50 moves) which the commentary said had only occurred 2-3 times in pro play before. It is because such interesting fights are possible that Japanese rules are to be preferred, according to some.

Also in connection with rules, this edition now includes the game that gave rise to Shuwa's famous torazu sanmoku ruling.

Old games added go back to 1704. In particular we now have almost 100 games by Okunuki Chisaku, who was considered superior to Honinbo Jowa before his early death. If you like Jowa's fighting style, be aware that Chisaku makes Jowa look like a wimp - every game seems like a white-knuckle ride.

Other noteworthy old players with new games here include, Genjo, Josaku (including the famous "ijime classic"), Tetsugen, Dochi, Shuwa abd Ota Yuzo. Nearer to modern times there are several new Shin Fuseki games, and of course the modern scene itself is up to date for all the main go countries. For China, in particular, there are several 1930s games that were brought back from China by Go Seigen and which don't seem to have surfaced yet in China.

Too late for this edition, but already installed for the Winter 2015 issue, we now have the game that is considered the only known example of quintuple ko.

No, sorry. Just to big a job to revamp in time a book of (I think) 4,000 biographies.

How is this relevant to a game under Japanese rules?

Not at all. I have understood the reference to dame fights as occurring under non-territory scoring rules, but the OP is ambiguous and John could also have referred to another type of dame fights, if so, a clarification helps.

Eagerly waiting for the download to complete.

Looking forward to replaying the 9x9 games. But generally just looking forward to delving in. I'm a GoGoD first-time downloader.

The download just completed. There looks so much content. Not sure what to do first! Search for a good go database program for Mac, that's the first thing.

It looks really good value. Content to last a lifetime and for less than the price of a cinema ticket.

There’s this thread, but it didn’t really help me: SGF database software for Mac?

I just got my copy of GoGoD Summer 2015 (as a birthday present - yay!). I'm perusing the content, but I can't find the New in Go articles. Can someone point me in the right direction?

That would be my mistake, sorry. I suppose no-one has mentioned it before because the "regulars" will already have it from previous editions, but I think anyway I did forget to bundle it this time.

I have now put a zip file in the download area that you were given access to, so hopefully you can get it from there. In case of problems please contact the site, which is separate from me. It's 55 MB which is presumably too big to e-mail.

Thanks, John. I enjoy you writing, so those articles were a big incentive for my purchase of GoGoD.
