I regret to announce the death of Phil Younger, a dan-level player here in southern California. He was not only a skilled go player, but also a professional competitor in several video games, holding the world record for at least one of them. I haven't been in touch with Phil or his family recently, so I don't know the details, but the last time that I talked to him - in 2013, I think - he had a skin cancer that had spread, but he said the docs had told him was treatable. Donations to the family can be made through this site. Just click on the 'donate' icon in the upper right corner of this page, and make a note that it goes to Phil's family, and I will make sure that it gets to them. JB, admin |
