The GD posts thing is not automatic. its just a field for you to manually put it in if you wanted to.

As far as the GD database, the plan is to implement it as a read only archive. this prevents any issues coming form usernames and such.

Just to clear any misconceptions, I didn't register Sol.ch on this forum...but I'm quite curious who did :).

It's great to see this. I know there has been a lot of people upset in recent times with the way things were being run over at GD. A big thanks go out to Don for all the work he has done, and for being willing to do all of this (archive, hand over the domain). Like has been said before, he helped establish a thriving community, and now is helping it along in what way he can.

Thanks Don.

Talked about in the above link. Some people were wanting some nostalgia about old post counts, so they were obliged with a way to display it. :D

Nice work.

looks like this is one of the best possible outcomes for both forums.
I hope the integration goes smooth.
Keep up the good work people.

You should take the domain and adopt it - no question. You could still use lifein19x19 as the domain for your larger project, and have godiscussions point directly to the forum.

It's a good domain, and it has a long history, many people who are (blissfully) unaware of the drama of the last month will go there as a matter of course.

What a happy ending!

Yes, I agree it would be nice to have the domain redirect here. I say this because there are countless Go websites which link to godiscussions.com - not much good if that becomes a broken link or if someone else buys that domain.

What is the status of the archive effort? I am unable to access posts on GoDiscussions.

Thanks. :)

Sorry, my internship semester ended and a school term began just as I was getting started on that, two months ago :( My free time dropped to 0. However, the worst of the school term is over now, so I'll be resuming this effort shortly. By the time August rolls around I'll be gearing up for my next internship so I'll have tons of time to focus on projects like L19 again.

Definitely high on my priority list; I wanna see it done as much as anyone :D

Maybe we should just let GD redirect here for now? There's still people continuing to post over there, and new accounts there too. I'm worried that there will be a fracturing of communities.

It looks like the "GODISCUSSIONS.COM" domain is still registered to Don. I don't think anyone took him up on the offer to take over the domain name itself.

I was hoping that he would take up the deal on GD just redirecting to this site.
But Life in 19x19 still sounds cool too though... :)

There is a lot of information that would be lost if gd were to redirect here without a working gd archive on this site. I go there from time to time to look things up.

I've been mostly away for a while, and I missed the meltdown. I agree with cthomas --

"Life in 19 x 19" is cool in its way, but it's way easier to tell a Go neophyte "Go discussions dot com" and be pretty sure it'll stick in their memory.

Heads up guys, I'm closing GoDiscussions down today and will be providing Adrian with a copy of the database that I just created.
