I’m getting 503 errors again …

Interestingly, the “view unread posts” loads w/o any problem. But as soon as I try to load one of those threads, first it seems (tries?) to load for an eternety (slow progress wheel in Chrome), then I (mostly) get this 503, plus, for example, this message: What does Java have to do with this?

But sometimes the page gets loaded after a few minutes, and then this happens quickly (fast progress wheel in Chrome), but often, oddly, it does not go to the last unread post but to the top of the page.

Pages were loading extremely slowly this morning, around 11:30 am EST.

Connection is now slow, and the site has been effectively unavailable for hours.

I was unable to connect at all from 7 am Tokyo time to just now ~7 hours. That was with firefox and chrome on windows and safari and chrome on iOS.

There has been a lot of connection problems lately (say, for a week now). Slow response times, lot of "unable to connect"'s, being logged out (while using "log me on automatically") etc.

Connection seems fine now but the site was inaccessible to me yesterday.

I think it's pretty clear there's something wrong with the site that needs a long term fix. These last couple of days have been especially bad, but this thread is evidence that we've been having problems for a while.

I hear you guys.

I'm sorry, but there is nothing that I can do right now. Jordus is the contact point for the hosting company, and he has to be the one to fix this. I've sent messages to him, but have not heard an answer.

When he does finally get in touch, I am going to request - in addition to all the obvious stuff - that he gives my contact info to the hosting company so that I'll be able to handle hosting problems in the future.

Is anyone archiving this site? Or does anyone have the technical savvy to do so? (I do not.) It would be a shame if the site died and we lost everything.

Admins can archive PHPBB forums pretty much by pressing one button in the admin panel, so not much technical expertise is required. That will create an archive on the server, the other thing that needs to be done is downloading it to safety.

I don't know whether someone is doing it or not.

From what I see it looks like the hosting company is having some serious bandwidth issues. When US is asleep, everything works fine, but when it's afternoon/evening in US there are some serious problems.

Perhaps another site in the same server/site hogging all the bandwidth?
