Notice how one of the features of Go Eye is "Go4Go integration". Thus promotion of Go Eye is in effect promotion of Go4Go as well. Pointing to a review where the reviewer has a vested interest in the program is not exactly the most reliable source of reviews.

So, ..., do you imply that I give you a free redeem code and let the most reliable gentleman to review the app in the most fair way?

No need, the app will speak itself :D

I do not imply anything nor am I looking for any redeem code not given to the general public. I'm just pointing out that if you want to point someone to a review of your program that you should try not to point to those which have a vested interest in the success of your software.

May I also point out that when you say

it doesn't help your cause to tell people who have differing viewpoints not to express their opinions.

Yes, I agree with you. You read every detail of the thread.
Congratulations, you are so nice so (any adj. to describe the best human beings) to point out the deepest thing with great insightful vision...(No redeem code, though)! :D

I welcome anyone to express opinion as long as it lists reasonable justification, though I think human beings always are biased.

So ... what do we do next?

"One more thing" is delayed due to Apple's statement

"In response to iOS 8, we’re experiencing higher than usual volumes of submissions. We appreciate your patience as we work hard to process all submissions as quickly as possible. "

Maybe it is (or is not) the state of the art? ;) Anyway, it is so happy to get this (though there is one faulty stone at bottom).

It takes thousands of no's for every yes. It will still need a while to release this cool feature until the polish is done. Only then do we sign our work and release it.

Go Eye 1.8.0 is released.

With the new exciting feature for image recognition.

In addition to Go Eye’s established auto recognition of computer generated go game image, we have developed the cutting-edge technologies to make Go Eye’s image recognition more practical for real life go boards. And it supports any combination of rows and columns. You can recognize a part of the board, 9x9 boards, even 2x19 boards, etc.

To use the new feature, use your fingers to select the four corners of the board with assisted board grid lines and magnifiers. More accurate selection results in more accurate recognition result.

In addition, you can customize the row number or column number in the area you select.

Please report any problem you find and we will fix them asap.

Note: We found that for super large photos, it may crash due to memory usage. So when trying the image recognition, pls resize it first. The problem will be fixed in next release.

Thanks.

I just gave it a try. I first used Go Eye's integrated browser to find a nice image from Google (it is probably a computer generated one but it looks real enough).

Long tap the image to activate the 'Recognize' button. After tapping it I got a warning that Go Eye could not recognize it automatically. Go Eye can automatically recognize two-dimensional computer generated Go board images (e.g. a screen capture of KGS client, or a go problem one can find a Sensei's library). Because now the input is a 3D image, Go eye needs some extra help.

As shown in the second screen capture, there are 4 green circles to help identify the 4 corners of the board grid. I found this fairly easy to use even on my iPhone 5's tiny screen. Once I tap the green circle I got a magnified view so that the 4 1-1 points can be accurately marked.

The last screen capture shows the recognized board position. Stones at B18, M9 and a few at the bottom right corners were missing. Also the color of K1 and Q2 were wrong. The majority of stones were recognized correctly.

Overall I think for a first release of real board recognition, it works reasonably well. Since image recognition is a very challenging task and can never guarantee to be 100% successful, it would be useful to provide a more convenient way to allow easy editing of the recognized image (now I can click the X button to edit but iPhone screen is just too small so it is a painful practice).

I also think the way using magnifier to locate board corners is very intuitive. Maybe it could be used as an alternative means to put stones on board.

Post subject:  Re: Go Eye released 1.8.0, recognizing real life boards

I just realised that in the previous post I did not pinpoint the 1-1 point at bottom right corner accurately, causing problems. After redoing it, all stones are bottom right corners are correctly recognised.

An important notice: 1.8.1 and 1.8.2 have critical problems due to its newly supported Fat binary(64-bit+32bit hybrid), as required by future submission.

A new fix was submitted. So if you haven't updated to 1.8.1, pls wait a while.

Version 2.1.3 was just released and it brings back the thumbnail based variation navigation without switching to tree view.

Post subject:  Re: Go Eye released 2.1.3

you posted recently a screenshot of Gu Li's recent victory in the 10th Chunlan Cup, an endgame diagram with move numbers.

I must say, those endgame move numbers are practically useless in being able to replay the game. I printed out a copy and tried unsuccessfully to replay the game. Many earlier move numbers from captures and ko fights are missing.

I realize there's probably not enough screen real estate to notate extra moves for duplicate positions, so there may not be a solution. But I would love to at least see the earlier moves on the blank spots where they were captured.
