Enjoy the game Otenki! And I hope some observers will join in to comment on our vulgar and abysymal play. ;)

By the way, we've agreed on playing closed book, so if you are here to spot noseki in their natural habitat, you are surely in the right place.

About my strategy
I have no standard opening as white, I don't even know a standard opening as white. In this game I will go for the double komoku, because I think these are much more dynamic then hoshi stones. Hoshi stones have no direction and are not urgent to play on, but the komoku leaves room for really interesting pincers, enclosures into moyos, avalanche and all that jazz. Also, komoku joseki are more difficult then the hoshi ones, so my opponent will more likely make a mistake. The same goes for handling an enclosure, likely for my opponent to approach too close or let me build a big moyo.

I think my advantage is that I am very aware of the value of stones and will not hesitate to sacrifice one or more of them if the stone is not important (e.g. no cutting stone, not keeping an opponent surrounded AND (most essential) the group capturing my stone is already strong.

This means I will try to take sente often and I am not afraid to 'disrespect' moves of my opponent if I don't read them to be a danger.

On the other hand, I've lost many a game because I could not see the reason for my opponent's move and he killed me ten moves later.

About my move
I am not comfortable with any cross-fuseki, so I'll just play the opposite corner.

Otenki only:
I wish you a great game, my adversary! And let's throw in some spoiler messages from time to time to make the observers wondering if we aren't collaborating. ^^

I know this guy is a fighter so he'll probably want to play taisha.
I have studied it for a bit so i'll probably get out of it well if he plays it.
The reason why I put it on the top left instead of bottom right is because I don't want facing komuku's for white. When i'm white I usualy go for that opening if my oponents allows it. The reason being is that black probably is going to have to aproach either one of them and then you would get to pincer him and build nice framework on the other side.

Next I'm thinking about R10 after he takes another corner. The reason for this is multiple. It works toghether with taisha as a ladder breaker for the complexer variation and develops the right side a bit :-)

Most probably this will all turn out totaly different than I imagine it to be as usual but lets see what white does :-)

Okay, so I am uncomfortable with this game already. I've not played against the 3-5 point much, but I know it is influence based. I feel like his 3-5 point is a test. Very nice move. My playing the last corner will show him I am not willing to risk complication this early in the game.

A: Firstly, if he responds by taking the open corner, we just have a transposition (same position with different order of moves) of my B move where he approaches my lower left komoku. I would be comfortable with this game, his 'low approach' to my komoku would be sub-optimal (IMHO) with his hoshi.

What I am afraid of is either being pressed low (4 @ D15) or a strange fight in the upper left corner (for example with the taisha, although I don't even know the next move for black if he wants to play this). I could tenuki and play in the lower right, but then his high-approach to my lower left stone would give him good influence (Two vs one in upper left, hoshi upper right, high-approach to lower left).

I don't think my opponent will play in the lower right corner though, so I am not in favor of A.

B & C: B & C are the calm responses. If he encloses top right, I think his direction is sub-optimal. If he approaches my lower-left, we'll have an interesting game. I'm still not sure about how to handle the top left.

I like C over B because I am planning to pincer his approach to my lower-left. I will not just give him this moyo he wants on the left side. If I pincer, the hoshi stone feels more balanced.

I'm not entirely sure about this move but I think this should be ok.
I made a plan and guess I should stick to it.
If he makes an enclosure at the bottom I'll just take the left side which feels to me as if i'm expanding more quickly. If he does then i'll maybe probe it at 2-4 to see what he wants and potentialy expand the left side.

My guess howhever is that he will take the left side instead or aproach the 3-5 stone.

Lets see what kind of nifty stuff he comes up with! :-)

I think his last move aims at approaching my lower right corner from the outside. Because of this, I enclose, so that approaching from the outside becomes less attractive. If he splits me with a move like K3, I will approach his upper right hoshi. I expect D15 though.

Otenki Only:
I'm from Holland. =D So we're in the same timezone. Btw, I don't think I will play these many moves EVERY day.

Observers:

So I thought about this for quite some time. I initialy thought of splitting white at the bottom.
Or making an extension at the top left. I guess both of these are very normal options.
I thought about what I'm trying to acomplish here.
Building a framework where I'm always getting profit from the one trying to enter it!
I'm not saying I will be chasing groups or anything like you would do for example when you would try to enter chinese on the wrong side.
But just something loose, fast and flexible.

I do realise that white currently has more points in theory so lets hope my fast stones will acomplish something soon.

Hope this makes sense :-)

Please correct me if what i'm writing is utter nonesence :-)

Observers:
I see that Otenki likes to develop fast and high (all of his stones except the right one are on the fourth line). It seems like he is going for some kind of gigantic moyo on the top side. If I want to be able to effectively reduce that moyo, I will need a group up top.

I would have played at O17, but I don't like the one space low pincer variation.

His responses could be numerous (I think his best bet would be a splitting move on the bottom) and my move is totally gote, but this split feels necessary.

Ok so this is kindoff what I was hopeing/anticipating.
So white has dropped a stone on top that has no base yet.
I'll make use of this to expand my framwork.

I hope to get something like this:

After that I suppose we will start fighting for the corner.
My guess is that he will win it and I will get influence.

Lets see...

My stone needs a base, and with this move this I create one. My guess is he will enclose his corner in response to me, after that I'll take gote to play G15, because I don't want him to attack my group severely and make more influence to go with his influence.

Then I think he will wedge on the bottom, if not I will play in the bottom and slowly develop my own moyo.

Strategy
I think this move is unreasonable. He has not yet even enclosed his corner and already tries to pressure my group. The thought is of course to surround my group, but without any stability for his corner yet.

When I see a move that leaves weakness behind, most of the time I keep on playing big points and exploit the weakness when it has become most advantageous, but here my shape is compromised and if I tenuki he will attack me severely. So there are two options: A) Defence: Defend my base or move out into the center. B) Attack: Attack the weaknesses he left and settle myself that way. Because his weakness is staring in my face I will choose to unsheath my sword and thrust. Hopefully I can do some twisting in the wound too!

Variation he expects after a tenuki:

For Beginners. After :w12: = :wc:, when B blocks with :b1:, W must cut with :w2: and fight (but this fight is good for B):

$$ | . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . |

Otherwise, if W does not plan to cut, then this result is good for B --
both exchanges ( :wc: - :b1: ) and ( :w2: - :b3: ) become good for B:

For Beginners. Yes, :b13: block is indeed the only move. Otherwise, the following broken shape and result are impossible for B:
