@Uberdude (because I apparently have a vendetta against you (!?)) (and disagreeing with stronger players seems like a way of learning) (Also not really hidden)
Your 'a' and 'b' may be miai for a base, but some animals are certainly more equal than others there. The possibility of something like c-d-e leaves a sour taste in my mouth alone.
(I realise this sounds like I'm talking up my idea from before, which I guess could be true)

Hi Loons,
Locally, I also like to keep as an option to approach , to keep things simple. I think of (x) and (y) as local follow ups. And if there are more options in the (z) direction, so much the better for B:
With these exchanges I just crawl along the second line and does not achieve much except trying to make live. And I don't even succeed without playing in the corner, too. (Locally at least, I have still access to the center but then I should omit these exchanges.)
Again as per plan. Decided I will go with my previous var instead of the 3-3 next move. I should hopefully get sente from it I think to throw an extra stone in the bottom left corner, probably like this:
On further consideration, either "a" points seem to leave horrible aji at "b", so I think I have to play this way. Black extending around "c" isn't as big as it looks because the marked Black stone is low, so it'll depend on some detailed eye-space reading as to how I respond to any of those. Fun fun.
I'm thinking about attack with then. Although is a defensive move, I still think the group still has its weaknesses. I guess 'a' to 'c' are possible answers for White. 'd', too, maybe as in it's a legal move but I don't think it's really good here.
Maybe something like this? Maybe even at when I have a nice sacrifice to make shape. I guess I also have to count soon because a move like looks very big since my own group doesn't make much territory.
I'm not particulary a fan of this sequence so I guess I'm more keen on settleling. I guess I could change to 'a' to make it not so easy for White but I don't really like this either.
After I could play for a Ko with 'a' or for shape with 'b'. The Ko would be enormously big and I have to find the first threat. I guess that would be an overplay?
Hard to chose any other move. With this I'm alive and ...
Indeed the only move, but it's not quite true to say this makes black locally alive. There is a famous tsumego arising from this shape when it is surrounded. For example if black doesn't defend with 27 and tenukis a lot:
Then the 32 34 combo kills the corner. Note the order, if you play 2-2 first then black answers the b15 hane at a and lives.
So while any kill is a long way off, black should be aware of this threat if his group loses access to the centre (or a spare eye there, d14 could make another eye so w may need to play d16 push which lets black give the tail, Edit: or if answer taking the liberty makes f17 squeeze work so hmmm...).
SoDesuNe's post exploring a potential prompts me to write a little about the calculation of variations. Note that he has 9 diagrams for one candidate move and 1 diagram for another. Now, without breathing hard I can come up with 8 or more candidate moves. This is not a criticism, because SoDesuNe probably considered candidates that he did not bother to make diagrams for. But he did explore a number of variations starting with only one candidate move.
That, I think, is the result of pursuing a general strategy of depth first search. One property of depth first search, by comparison with breadth first search, is that it uses less memory. Conscious human working memory is surprisingly small. Which may explain the human preference for depth first search.
One thing to do is to take a little time to identify candidate moves before exploring one in depth. That way we will be less likely to overlook a good move. (Consider Uberdude's advice to indentify at least three candidates.) SoDesuNe does that when considering possible replies to one candidate for . But he does not do that in his note for itself. Maybe he did in his thinking, maybe not.

I'm not sure I like the prospect of being sealed in or almost sealed in gote, so I'd consider some sort of center move, but that base is so important, I'm inclined to agree with you.
Some further explanations: Firstly, I'm sort of vaguely remembering this being joseki at some point, so I'm hoping it's globally ok here (never a guarantee with any joseki), but I'm choosing it more because I want to induce Black to settle the top for me a bit, and all of these moves have value if/when Black tries to handle the left hand side. By adding a bit of three dimensional depth to my moyo at the edges, I get more freedom to make territory making choices depending on how he chooses to play.
First instinct is this. In a blitz game I would not even think twice ^^
But for the sake of showing my flaws in judgement and reading, I will try to add some variations and explanations first. I guess I also have to count soon.
Next time : D
After writing I began to not like . Why do I want to break out when I could attack the upper White group a bit more severely?
