I guess there's more to be learnt from a lost game, but since the win was a fluke settled by a ko that I probably shouldn't have won, combined with the fact that black had a few good moves to destroy my position, it didn't feel like an overwhelming victory.];B[qd];W[dp]C[This is the third time I play this guy, the two first times I lost and we were playing cross fuseki. So I wanted to try something new.];B[pp]C[Guo Juan (and Nick Sibicky) once said that if you play D17 (as black) then playing R16 is better than playing Q16 because you have one line extra, so to speak. But this setup, where black plays Q3 seems to make more sense, because now he's threatening to play P16 or P17, and white will have to come in at say R10. Also, is there a difference between playing a 4-4 followed by a 4-3, as opposed to playing like this? As far as I see it, if white dislikes black 3, he can play there instead, and black would either have to play a cross fuseki, or play the other variation mentioned above.];W[dd]C[Play corners first. They usually get taken away regardless of how I play, so I like 4-4, works better with influence as well.];B[fq]C[Black approaches, I'm not sure what the benefits of pincers are in these types of situations. The pincers I would have in mind would be H3 or H4. Most likely I'd play F4 if I wasn't intending on falling back to D6 - C6. I'm not sure why, exactly, which isn't good. But usually I gain better results from that exchange.];W[cn]C[He can still play C11 or something, so I don't want him to come underneath my stones.];B[dr];W[cq]C[Common joseki so far. I thought about what would happen if he tenuki'd here. Say he plays P17, now I have to choose whether I want to play something like J3 myself (I'm not entirely sure how to approach if he tenukis) and let him play R10, or if that seems too bothersome, I'd have to play there myself, thereby allowing him to finish his joseki. So, can he tenuki? It seems so to me.];B[iq];W[od]C[My reasoning was that you should always approach a 3-4, but this was probably the first real mistake in this game. I should've just jumped in at R10 instead.];B[pf];W[qk]C[It's starting to look like a double wing formation, and I'd rather have my P16 stone under attack than having to deal with that.];B[qi]C[So I have to make a base, and he can still harass my stone.];W[qn];B[nq]C[On the other hand though, if he didn't react, I could've attacked his corner. Wonder if I would've thought about that in-game, I should've at least.];W[nf]C[So now I'm thinking I need to do something before it's too late. My group in the lower right have options available to them, the middle is open, I can approach the corner, so it seems to make sense.];B[og]C[Why does he come up with this move? I can't really say, I'd rather play C11 or J 17. Seems slow, but on the other hand I did feel the need to back up my two stones. But that doesn't really help black that much. So.. I think it's too slow, and helps white.];W[ok]C[I guess I worried more about that group. I suppose I was worried about capping moves, and I hadn't really though about the fact that I could approach the corner. I was very focused on the group not getting blocked in. It's mostly psychological, I think. He's already won two games against me, and now he almost gets a double wing formation. It's not entirely irrational though, if these stones get shut in, he'd have a nice moyo going, and stronger influence towards the centre than me.];B[oi]C[I kept looking at Q12 throughout the game, but I was never really sure what to do about it. I suppose he's trying to put pressure on my group, but I felt that it was an akward move. Also, he still has big moves on top and left, this still seems slow.];W[jd]C[Not sure if it's too far away, and for that reason I decided to play high as opposed to low, because it somehow seemed “nearer”. Doesn't seem that dangerous straight away at least.];B[fc]C[Whenever someone does this, and I already have a stone at K16, I'm bound to play F16, it seems quite annoying, and I build up a wall facing my other stones.];W[fd];B[gd];W[fe];B[dc]C[So here I'm actually not quite sure how to continue, I know how the joseki goes if black plays E17. Actually, C17 doesn't look that bad either (ah, it's also a joseki).];W[ec]C[I decided that it looked like black would have too many cutting points.];B[eb];W[ed];B[gb]C[Now I'm thinking that it wasn't such a great idea after all, since he really doesn't have many cutting points.];W[cc]C[I decide to try to secure points in the corner.];B[db];W[cb]C[So the joseki move would be G15. Secures more influence towards the centre for me, I suppose. Black also has more space to live and annoy me if he plays G15. Also, my move doesn't have any repercussions if he doesn't respond, which gives him sente.];B[ic]C[Looks fine to me, if I had peeped at H17 it could've been a bit annoying I suppose... No, not really, if he plays G15 and I peep, and he connects, my stones have more weaknesses than his. So I'm glad he didn't, I'll play G15 the next time.];W[jc]C[In my mind I'm trying to secure territory with this move, and make sure he doesn't get too much space.];B[ib]C[Hmm, he's saying something like\: “I can still sneak under your stones, wanna do something about it?” while at the same time securing two eyes. L17 looks annoying, my stones at P16 still don't really have a base, and if he plays K17 the cut at L17 needs to be fixed, or else he can basically play a ladder breaker somewhere close to my P16 stones while threatening to cut them, uncool.];W[hc]C[It turned out to be a good move in the end. Umm, he doesn't have to respond right away, because he can still play K17. Problem is I think I'm attacking his stones at D18, but now, if he tenukis it looks like I'm actually threatening the stone at G16.];B[hd]C[Does save his stone at G16 and keeps a window open to the middle. Seems good to me.];W[ch]C[Still seemed like a big move for black.];B[jo]C[We've played corners and sides already, so the next step would be centre. Well it does seem to secure his side while at the same time moving into the centre, so it seems good to me. I still have my weak group up top though, maybe he could've played there. There's also C9, although it feels a bit behind enemy lines, what do you think?];W[hf]C[I wanted to build up my wall while keeping him in, but I have a weakness at J15, seems better to play there actually.];B[on];W[pm]C[I wasn't sure if this was necessary, but something like this ( bP6 K10 Q7 R7 Q8 Q9 R8 S8 S7 S6 S9 T7 S10) seemed scary to me.];B[nm]C[Building his way into the middle, looking good, and he's threatening to cap my group. On the other hand, he might have played a keima (O8), maybe he could've hassled me a bit more. But then again, I'd still be out in the open, and I can still make more space for myself with a keima at S4, so my group is quite safe. But, O8.. I don't know, usually when I play something like O7 the head of my Go club says it's too timid.];W[mk]C[Well, at least I thought he might try to cap my group in, so I decided to jump out. I don't know, so far it looks good for black, my group on top is still being neglected (luckily he doesn't know what to do about it either), and I still have open space at C9, maybe he could just play something like D9 at some point, also looks annoying. Not sure.];B[ll]C[Sure, it's good I guess. Still building influence and territory, I have to catch up soon.];W[mh]C[My group up top looks safer, and now I'm one step closer to capping him in. There's a lot of potential for action with O10 though.];B[kk]C[He keeps building into the middle, now I really need to start catching up here.];W[gm]C[So this is my attempt at reducing his moyo, I really can't say much about whether it's a good attempt or not. He still has something like this\: ( bO10 O9 N11 M11 M12 M10 N13 O12 O13), and I mean he can just basically eat his way into my framework. Instead though.. something weird happened.];B[hm]C[Isn't there like a proverb\: Extend from the hane, or something like that?];W[gl];B[gn];W[hl]C[I wanted to get influence towards the centre.];B[im];W[fn]C[K7 felt passive, so I thought I might as well make sure he can't sneak into my framework this way now that I'm a step closer to building territory between H8 and H14.];B[go]C[Also felt passive, and now I felt strong enough to take some points in the middle.];W[ij];B[jl];W[ki]C[Awesome.];B[oc];W[nc];B[pc];W[md]C[Now this group also seems safe.];B[ro];W[rn];B[qo]C[I'm sure there would be better moves for black, my framework is getting too big, I still have a weakness at J15 that he can take use of. There's probably something to be done to try to cut off my group on the right as well. On the other hand, he's securing his corner, that's important.];W[ie]C[Alright, security breach removed.];B[cr]C[There are got to be some mistakes somewhere in the following sequence.];W[br];B[bs];W[nb]C[Sort of an endgame move I suppose, but it did seem like we were entering endgame. And, I sort of remember someone saying that if you were ahead with points, you should play safe and try to wrap up the game with endgame moves.];B[jb];W[kb];B[ep];W[eo]C[I should've been more careful here, I was thinking too myself that there is bound to be a lot to cut here now.];B[fo];W[dn];B[dq];W[cp]C[I should've just played B4.];B[bq];W[bp];B[ar];W[qa]C[The valiant monkey jump, seemed to be worth a lot of points.];B[rk];W[rl];B[rj];W[qj]C[I'm still looking at Q12, but I can't figure out if there's anything going on there.];B[ob];W[oa];B[qb];W[pa];B[rb];W[ra]C[Black loses more points than he has to, we DDK's all know that feeling. ^_^'];B[cj]C[I was pretty confident that this would die, but it didn't.];W[di];B[bi];W[bh];B[bl];W[ci];B[bn];W[bj];B[bk];W[ai]C[So at this point I had only considered what would happen if black played B5. A4 was automatically categorized as blockable, sadly.];B[ap];W[ao];B[bo];W[aq];B[kc];W[lb];B[ap];W[fb]C[Sort of a bad threat I guess. And I'm still not sure if that group really did die or not, but we both thought it did. (Later, not now)];B[an];W[gc];B[hb];W[fc];B[do]C[I assumed this was a failed attempt at a snapback.];W[co];B[fm];W[en];B[em];W[dm];B[el];W[dl];B[ek];W[dk];B[dj];W[ej];B[ck];W[fk];B[cm];W[fl]C[I took those stones, because I thought I might be able to use the extra liberties to give him a shortage of liberties (or at least threaten to).];B[ak];W[al];B[am];W[cl];B[bm];W[aj]C[This was unneccesary, I was getting hungry at this point, and my concentration was dropping. I should've just played F19 to make sure that the group was dead.];B[pn];W[om];B[ml];W[nl];B[sn];W[sm];B[so];W[ni];B[pj];W[pk];B[oj];W[nj];B[nh]C[I played this game on Tygem, what annoyed me most about it was that my opponent, after the invasion on the left side, started asking to see the count assessment for our game, which I just always decline. To me it's sort of a weird form of psychological warfare, on the one hand I don't want to know, on the other it seems lazy. Oh well, I wasn't many points ahead, black might have been able to catch up as bad as my endgame is, and as bad as my reading is, the black group on top could probably also come back to life somehow.])
