PW[Tan Xiao]PB[Meng Tailing]WR[7p]BR[6p]DT[2016-07-20]EV[21st Samsung Cup, preliminary]SO[Go4Go.net]C[Meng Tailing self review

small group final (round 5) of the Samsung cup preliminaries

most start at round 2. Hundreds of players have been knocked out already.

Koreans have been doing very badly - almost all the games were Chinese vs Chinese despite it being a Korean tournament, its so crazy. You can see the thickness in the ranks of Chinese pros these days.

This game would be expected to be very tough - my record against Tan Xiao is 2-10, so extreme

Both of us have a much higher win rate with white, so the nigiri is quite important]RE[W+Resign]

;B[bm]C[suddenly, B is now in the lead

but in the game, I thought my lead was so big, I felt so satisfied, but in reality I had only reversed the earlier deficit.

And in hindsight this was the sort of game I am bad at and my opponent was good at.

My advantage this game is still in the normal ebb and flow

So how can such a skewed win rate come about? Its really hard to say. For example Chen Yaoye had 8 straight wins against Choi Cheolhan. You can't say its go strength. Against no-one else is my record so low. And its not just endgame, as my record against Chen Yaoye is nearly 50%.

I don't want to make excuses, but I think there must be a style issue here.

Tan plays fast and hence simple and clear, but rarely plays those good but unusual moves. This style is not so good at reversing games, but good at maintaining a lead. I'm not behind in the opening or middlegame but Its when I get into those fuzzy endgames where I lose to Tan Xiao

;W[ml]C[this pretty much saves O4, and M11 has some aji. In these sorts of fuzzy areas, my judgment is not so good

And hence I can make one mistake after another. Even that game I won earlier in the year to Tan Xiao, I had such a huge lead, maybe 15 points, but one mistake after another, and I was behind. I only won when Tan misplayed some 1 or 2 point moves. I won by 0.5 point]

The story f this game is Q15 showed up my go weakness. The result was so painful, its unbelievable.

Its impressive I didn't resign there.

Around move 95 when I was in the lead, it was so fuzzy, when there were still big endgame and question marks over strength and weakness, that is my weakest area

If only I could get W to respond if I played D2, its worth sente 9 points, forget about J6 or H5.
