PW[Yu Zhiying]PB[Magist]WR[5p]BR[9p]DT[2016-12-29 20:51:02]RO[05]PC[Tygem]C[This the most popular opening played vs Master, so we get to know particularly well what Master is thinking.

Highlights

1-9 Master shows its logic in the opening, supporting many ideas that are centuries old. But these days pros play anything in the opening. !!

11-24 A very common sort of opening in pro games, good to see Master agreeing with 11, but 21 and 27 are stunning new moves. B takes huge profit at the top, and thinks hane at the head of 4 stones isn't so important !!!

37-52 A excellent sequence to sacrifice B's weak group, and punish 36 for being slow. B's lead becomes very clear. And we get to open our mind that even such a big group is sacrificeable. !!

53 If this move is optimal, it changes our recognition of this shape. Crude but clear, more of attaching on top of 3rd line stones. !

;B[pd]C[Master prefers 4-4 to open, without choosing a direction, (not yet showing its cards)]
;W[dd]
;B[qp]
;W[dq]
(;B[nq]C[It is reassuring to see Master value the 3-4 enclosures highly, and never playing double 4-4 as black. This is similar to pro thought.

Whereas leelabot thinks the 3-4 and the enclosure are too slow.]
(;W[qf]
;B[nc]
;W[qj]
;B[co]C[master likes the low approach so much, thinking that this makes the 3-4 stone very uncomfortable]
(;W[ck]C[Master thinks W should have protected earlier, I wonder if it still likes this pincer?]
;B[fp]C[It values this move more than humans. Pros probably think it is hard to use this wall, even though logically following up against the 3-4 should be powerful (C9 is sort of a local tenuki)]

(;W[iq]C[this is to get sente and is the reason pros haven't dared to play this as B in the past (according to Meng)]
(;B[ci]C[so this tenuki is very interesting]
(;W[ek]
;B[cf]
;W[ei]
(;B[bd]C[played before in pro games but rare]
;W[ef]C[thought to be good for W as the left B shape is weak so ]
(;B[fd]C[new move !! brilliant

if you can't hope to cut then poke instead]
(;W[df]C[correct exchange for W, gains later if B gets 3-3 and creates more B12 aji]
(;B[ce]
;W[ed]
;B[jd]C[so B's shape on the left still has issues, but W's influence looks silly without the extension. And it doesn't have great eyespace with the shape poked out and made heavy]
;W[jp]C[the question is whether this move is worth the territory loss at the top?

It does look very powerful - though it is only hane at the head of 4 not 3 or 2, the cut at D5 means the F5 cut is more powerful.]
;B[jo]C[! looks crude, and I'm not sure I would think of this, but the 4 stones are now heavy and important to strengthen at the cost of the right]
(;W[kp]C[there is still good endgame at L2]
(;B[fc]C[W's influence looks really weak now]
(;W[rd]C[master almost never plays this move, thinking it too slow, either invading the corner with R17 or living with R16, or tenuki

probably this move was a mistake in this position, and the following trade was almost inevitable once B started it.]
;B[dj]C[this combination stops W B12, but as B11 remains, it seems incredibly crude.

-the goal is also to break the W eyespace and flexibility though
-and to save the lower B group via D9]
(;W[ej]
;B[dh]
(;W[fn]C[it's normal to expect B to answer here, so this is a good move]
(;B[eh]C[but the tenuki seems correct]
;W[ge]C[it's not clear if this makes a good exchange, but the game result means that B retreats a move, so it probably turned out well. I wonder if B could have played more fiercely]
;B[gh]C[only move]
;W[fo]C[only move]
(;B[hd]C[B comes back to protect small, without G15, B might aim to make a large capture around J13]
;W[hg]
;B[gg]C[a bit submissive, defends against wedge aji, but primarily aims to solidly capture E14 or get sente

I don't see why B responds since W is already disconnected]
(;W[cj]C[stopping the cut]
;B[hf]C[W's play means B's capture isn't so big, and W's capture is worth more points, but W has to spend another move, and J4 is not yet dead, so the trade seems even.

(B's group was already weak, so sacrificing it means B has less worries)]
(;W[bq]C[it is too easy for B to live without this move]
(;B[bi]C[huge, over 20 points + aji in W's area]
(;W[hj]C[this is a solid and proper move

the position is now settled, and we can evaluate who has the advantage.

W has 40 solid points at the bottom, maybe 15 on the right, and say potential of 15 in the centre

B has 70 solid points at the top, less than 10 on the bottom right (W is so solid), and maybe potential of 10 in the centre

there are 2 big endgame points remaining around R7 and R17

since B has sente, B seems to have a clear lead]
(;B[pf]C[this seems to be solidifying the weakness that W has, but maybe this is just a good exchange to press W low in the position (the direction of play is good), to help gain control of the centre in sente]
;W[pg]
;B[of]
(;W[ph]C[the most solid move for the centre, though a little painful to protect so solidly, perhaps correct]
(;B[jj]C[expected, helping reduce the W potential, and growing B's own]
