The Little-Known Story of the Birth of the QR Code, how go inspired the inventor of the QR codes:

We saw the article on other social media, yeah, nice to have it here, too. The article was, of course, aimed at curious QR users, not go players. Still, I wish the interviewer had spent more time diving into the go aspect.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread but the news of the Prime Minister of Japan reminds me about the 25th Pair Go Event 2014 top speaker.

It looks like Japanese go has returned the compliment. Nihon Ki-in publications have just started using QR codes as a way of calling up game records so as to replay them.

I've watched the trailer twice and haven't seen it -- is there a goban in the movie?

Nice find. Yea, "they tried": the lines aren't off; Shogi board :)

That does look like a shogi board, very odd -- particularly when they seem to have had a go board asset for another part of the game:

It's even the same game position. I do not have the impression that the players were stronger than maybe 8 kyu, though?

By the way, where are the bowls?

I’ve seen screenshots from Cyberpunk 2077 that showed the lines correctly, seems to have to do with resolution or zoom state? But comments said the board position is always the same (I didn't see all screenshots nor have I played the game).

Oxford University Press seems a little schizophrenic in that it publishes both an Oxford English Dictionary and an Oxford Dictionary of English, and both in various formats. I think the difference is that the OED focuses on history and etymology and the ODoE on popular usage.

My own vade mecum is a rather big Oxford Dictionary of English (2005). It mentions go but incorrectly. The entry is "A Japanese board game of territorial possession and capture. ORIGINL late 19th cent.: Japanese, literally 'small stone', also the name of the game." (The small stone bit is wrong.) But I suppose we should be grateful for any mention.

However, I have also been told that the really big OED also includes an entry for ko. I have no easy access to the big OED to check, and if it is there I'd not be surprised to see the old claptrap about Buddhist aeons.

I have to protest -- that character fell asleep watching a pro game! When has that ever happened in real life?
