Hello,
I recently returned from Japan and had a couple of sets of stones brought back with me that I'm now looking to sell. These sets are NATIVE Japanese clamshell (not Mexican) and include a set of black stones as well. We could conduct the transaction individually or if you prefer I could create an Ebay auction though I'd request that you please cover the auction, paypal and shipping costs. Shipping is from Utah state in the U.S.

1. Size 25 Yuki Grade (SOLD)
I bought these stone for myself from a friend and had Mr. Kuroki clean them professionally for me. I was going to use this set for my personal playing but ended up buying some sized 32 from Mr. Kuroki anyway so it's sad to see these stones unused. Mr. Kuroki was kind enough to include four extra stones to replace the ones that were chipped though these are still included. This is a full playing set with no missing stones. They are in great shape and after the cleaning process look new. There is also a certificate of authenticity included, provided by Mr. Kuroki (He's an awesome guy! I highly recommend his services!). These stones have not been played with or handles without white gloves since they were professionally cleaned and polished.

I was looking for $550 for the stones and for an additional $50 (total $600) I'll include the bowls they came with. I thought the bowls were Mulberry but Mr. Kuroki assured me they weren't so I believe they're Keyaki (Zelkova) since they don't appear to be Sakura.

2. Size 22 Yuki Grade. (SOLD)
I purchased these stones from Mr. Bozulich with the intent of using them as a possible tournament prize. Sadly there aren't enough people in my area to justify the cost so I'm planning on selling them. These stones are new and have never been played with. They don't come with a certificate but they are indeed native Japanese clamshell.

I'm asking $150 for this set.

3. Bowls
The bowls are gorgeous but well used. Mr. Kuroki was kind enough to polish them for me when I sent the stones for cleaning. There are a few dings on the wood but it is still in great condition. As I mentioned, I'm not sure what the wood it but it's not Sakura and Mr. Kuroki assured me that it wasn't Kuwa (Mulberry) so I'm willing to place my bet on Keyaki (Zelkova). The wood has a very nice sheen to it when held in the light and a pleasant (non-kaya) smell on the inside.

I was asking $50 for the bowls. (SOLD)

Thank you!

Erythen, if you have the time (and energy), you can experiment with a few simple ideas to photograph your bowls.

To get rid of the very harsh glare from your light source(s):
You can wait for an overcast day (for diffused, indirect sunlight) --
this was taken with a very simple point-and-shoot camera, on a rainy day :)

You can try to put a white handkerchief over your lamp(s) -- (same idea: soften the light) --
here's one from Kuroki's website:

You can also try to pull your lamp(s) farther away from the bowls.

Experiment with different angles of your lamp(s) -- so that your shiny bowls don't act
like a mirror, directly reflecting the harsh light back into the camera.

Another example of diffused light source(s) and angle(s):

Good luck selling your shell stones and bowls. :)

Thanks for the advice EdLee. I'm not much of a photographer but get a good shot in once in a while :). I'll try to retake the photos of the bowls later today. Thank you :)

If I weren't buying football and soccer equipment for my sons, I'd take those 22s in a heartbeat. Kids come first, though. Beautiful stones!

As you can see, traffic around here is pretty slow but, with patience, good go stuff sells eventually.

You can research Hyuga/Nachiguro sets on eBay. Rare and can fetch a nice price.

Your photos of the stones are great teasers. Nice work.

I have purchased several products from Mr Kuroki. The transactions were fulfilling and enjoyable.

I have all the go gear I need so, sadly, I am not a prospective buyer. Best of luck and thanks for posting.

I had the chance to visit with Mr. Kuroki when I was in Japan. He brought out some sized 40 Hyuga stones, they were amazing! A little disheartening though, just one of those stones was worth more than I made in a month!

Anyway Bogiesan, I noticed you're in Boise. I've a small club here in Logan, UT that just started up. It's quite far but if your ever in the area let me know!

I've been the locus of the Boise Go Club for more than thrity years. It comes. It goes. Waxes, wanes. Online go has ruined our little group but server play has allowed many of the kids I taught to quickly become strong and competent players who just kick my butt on the rare across the board games we get.

I get to Salt Lake every couple of years. We'll figure something out.

I am interested in your Size 22 Yuki Grade Go stones. Do you have bowls for this size stone too?

How do I contact you regarding sale?

Hello Gollum,
unfortunately I don't have any bowls for sized 22 stones at the moment. I'll send you a PM with my contact information and we can talk about them.

I'll look forward to speaking with you :)
