As you can see from the fact that I changed my mind about the followup one move later, I had second thoughts too. I thought that the move I chose was part of a joseki (if you ignore the extra exchange at G17/G16), but I could definitely be wrong (or it could be inappropriate here).

I know Black's move is valid, but I can't actually remember anyone ever playing it against me! I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to pull back, but with my wall I'd probably end up being overconcentrated, plus it even has an open skirt at the bottom (though maybe that isn't as bad as it looks; if Black tries the monkey jump I think I can play B14, after which A14 B16 A16 is a ko).

I bet this cut isn't "correct", but I have strength in the vicinity, and I probably need to start a fight at some point if I'm going to come back. I looked at a few variations but I don't think there's much point in transcribing any of them yet.

I guess this is the only move. This seems like an overplay for white.

It looks fine for me, at least in these two variations.

Let's do this. I extended from my weaker stone (I think), as I am instructed. I'm not going to bother with variations yet, because 1) so many different things could happen, and 2) I have lots more stones around, so I shouldn't have to worry that I'm going to get wrecked. For example, if Black ends up with the corner but I get another good wall, that should be okay.

Now Black has a decision to make. My first instinct as Black would be to hane at C4 rather than to keep extending with F5. In that case I would have to decide whether to try to fight over the corner or whether to give him one more big corner while making another wall.

I don't really see an alternative. I was hoping to create some ideas in the corner, but for everything I saw, Black broke into the lower side and I just got weak anyway. I now foresee something like this (not sure about yet):

Black has something like 23 points in the upper left, 20 in the lower left, 12 in the lower right, 4 prisoners = 59.

If White can hang on to everything between his walls and K10/K4, that's something like 60.

I don't think White actually can, plus Black deserves some credit for the upper right star point stone, plus it'll be Black's move, but the game is not necessarily out of reach. I still feel like I'm going uphill, but that's okay, I don't mind fighting from behind.

As much as I want to hane, it looks like an overplay.

I am in rather big trouble, actually. Continuing to descend in the lower left is so non-sente that it's rather embarrassing that I was under the delusion that it was. I'm going to make one move here on the right to hopefully get Black to commit to making something on the upper side, then plan to hane at J16, which looks rather small, but I think the difference between me playing there and Black playing at J15 has a big effect on the whole center and northeast quadrant of the board. I need to mix things up a little or I'm just going to be staring at a 20-point deficit where Black has no weak groups.

Since I don't have any good response locally, I think I am gonna tenuki...My move is aiming at the hane at H5. White doesn't have a lot of liberties, so if he tenuki I can squeeze him.

If I play low, this shoulder hit is very obnoxious...

I really can't let him keep pushing out on the fourth line. I'm regretting a bit playing tenuki last move, but I still don't think it would have been sente for me to play here myself, so maybe this is Black's privilege.

Despite my low number of liberties, I think I am ahead in the fight if Black decides to cut now or later.

Black's corner is really gigantic. If he is able to make any decent erasure of my middle territory, I'm a goner. All I can do for now is keep playing, though.

I should come back to respond in the corner. Hopefully I can get sente out of this.

This feels like double sente. Black playing around here would expand his corner, cut into my side, and threaten to cut, while this might actually make territory on the bottom side, and threatens to extend at D3, which could cause trouble. I need to try to mix it up in any case.

It's not at all clear to me that this is double sente. The follow up at d3 is just points, if it works at all. I don't know how I'd decide where else to play, however.

That was big. Maybe I should play there myself first...But I am gonna tenuki for now because D3 is just a big endgame move. My corner wont' die because of this.
