Given that Kaya's officially dead now, what do you guys think about this sub-forum? Should I leave it up to discuss alternatives/the (hopefully) eventual open-sourcing of the code, or shut it down to clean up the front page a bit?

I think it would be helpful to shut down Kaya and "King of the Hill". I also wonder if we could take down "Insei League" - it was used most as a bulletin board by breakfast, and even he hasn't posted there in a year. And could "ride share to tournaments" be merged with "tournaments"?

Yes, but only if all the posts are still available for reading. We could have a subsection "archives" where these unsuccessfull subforum are transfered (with read only access).

I'm not sure if it's possible to do this without breaking any links to existing posts, that would be very appreciable

For the kaya subforum, perhaps we could rename it something like 'Other Go Servers' and leave it as a place for commentary on them until one becomes established enough to warrant its own subforum.

This would probably be technically simpler to implement.

I just reported Adrian’s comment with recommendation to follow thread from there on … to make sure the admins won’t miss this :-)

I'm pretty sure Adrian knows about Adrian's comment already.

Well, the point of this is that forum regulars probably don't use the main forum directory at all, whereas to fledgling go players, it probably looks like a huge mess. I think it makes more sense to merge "Kaya" and "Turn-based" into "Other", if anything.

To be honest I don't know why there are separate forums at all and not just one forum that has tags for each major go server or server type.

For the really big ones, like KGS, I think it makes sense, if only to have a special place for all those 'I hate KGS because...' threads. The number of servers I'd count as 'really big', though, is pretty small.

Yeah, and people have technical problems with Tygem and Wbaduk all the time, it's easier if they can find those threads by browsing through the proper forum.

Weird...I've never heard anything about Nova.

I can't believe they decided to end this. I felt like it had a lot of potential and it looked wonderful. There were hardly any people on it, but my brother and I played against eachother all the time on it...I'm sad to see it go...a little shady from the developers it sounds like.

What are people's opinions about Nova.gs?

This thread is a little bit old. Nova merged with OGS (online-go.com) a month back, I'm sure you can find people's opinions in topics in the Announcements subforum ( viewforum.php?f=9 ).

To make it easier, I’ll make it clickable: online-go.com. Check it out, I’m sure you’ll find it enjoyable :-)

For the announcement of the merger of OGS and nova, see this thread.

Greetings, Tom

The least classy goodbye I've seen in a while. No thank you's and no apologies.

How do you say a classy goodbye to something you had so much hopes for and what proved to be such a disappointment?
And apologies for what? Donating money? Putting time to test it? Or what? I don't get it...

For all its worth - I hope Kaya will be back, in some form.
Was a great project. All it needed was some solid structure behind it to soar...

But for now - R.I.P.
Life goes on.

Maybe they should have thanked all the people who donated & registered to their c***y server and at least apologized for running away with the money?

Apparently they lack manners and you guys are wondering why their platform is dead...

No, a curly server. Uses expensive shampoo

A cowry server? Using cowry shells as go stones, maybe.

That would be a cool set, eh? :)
