It's time for the 1st pseudo-annual Kocoro Cup!!!

There seemed to be an interest in a tournament for 4 - 8 kyu so lets try and get it going.

The rules will be the same as in the Kuchinashi tournament.

If you are interested is participating please post to this thread and include your timezone for pairing purposes.

Here are specs for the tournament:

- All games will be played in the Life in 19x19 room on KGS
- Time setting are 1 hr + 1:00x3 byo-yomi
- Each round is a best of 3 series
- There is a 2 week maximum window for each round
- Losers enter a secondary bracket
- Championship is between the winners of the two brackets with the winners bracket getting a one game advantage
- The loser of the final round in the winners bracket (the only person eliminated after a single elimination) then has the opportunity to challenge for a game to determine 2nd and 3rd place
- In the past Dan level players have normally been around to review games. Hopefully someone will volunteer to offer the winner a couple free teaching games.

I am hoping we can get at least 8 people for a double elimination. I think the most we could do is 16 which would be great if we can get those kind of numbers.

Who will be the first champion of the Kocoro Cup?!?!?

Current Participants:
Nathan (8kyu) GMT-5
Gorim (8kyu) GMT+1
Phelan (6kyu) GMT+1
Speedchase (5kyu) GMT-5
Hailthorn (7kyu) GMT-5
Phillip18 (6kyu) GMT-5
Schultz (8kyu) GMT-7 (Maybe)
tj86430 (7kyu) GMT+2
RBerenguel (6kyu) GMT+1

Ok so I think we should get this thing started!

Here is the bracket:

http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=419378&tclass=4-8%20Kyu

We can say the first week starts Wednesday 2/8 so everyone has a chance to see it,

Sorry Schultz I don't know how to do 9, if we get someone else we can work you in. Or if anyone has a better idea let me know. And if anyone else wants to join we can try to fit them in as well.

I can fill in times as people decide so hopefully some stronger players can stop by and provide some reviews.

Round 1:
Speedchase vs Nathan (2-1)
Phillip18 vs Hailthorn (1-0)
RBerenguel vs tj86430 (1-2)
Phelan vs Gorim (0-1)

Goodluck!!

Newly 5-kyu, I would like to join

BTW: what are the rules about rank. It is completely possible that I will be 3kyu by the time the tournament is over.

Hopefully everyone will improve as the tournament goes on so I wouldn't worry about it.

That brings up a good point though... does everyone want to have seeds based on KGS ranking, or have the pairings match up based on time zones?

I would vote for based on time zones, at least for the first match

I was going for Kokoro... woops

kokoro: mind; heart; spirit; soul.

To me Go feels good to the soul/spirit... plus alliteration is always good.

When are you thinking of starting?

I'm interested, but need to figure out my own scheduling first (if I can actually do three games over a two week period).

Mark me down as tentative. GMT-7.

What?! I'm deeply offended! :P ;) I kid, I kid.

This is probably for the best. At least now I won't pretend I can fit in a these games. ;)

I do look forward to following this, though. You guys are all close to my strength, and I've even had the privilege of losing to a couple of you in the past!

9 is usually done by making there be one match to eliminate on person before the main round. it may be too late though.
