Dwyrin on his stream stated that next year's registration fees are going to be over $1,500. Does anyone have any source for this number? That seems like a figure that most players can't afford. I was really hoping I could make my first Congress next year, but at that price point it's not possible. You still have to factor in travel, food, lodging, etc.

That can't be right. The registration fee has been $425 for the last three years. Are you sure he wasn't already factoring in costs like travel and lodging or something?

Is there an easy way to clip Twitch streams and post it? If not I can look back and find exactly where he said that....

The stream on July 31st, 5:03:00

"Don't quote me, but the rumor is with registration and other fees, you will be looking at $1700 for registration before flight"

Obviously I am quoting him, lol.

In comparison, the EGC in Ukraine is really cheap.

Is that a flight to Fort Collins, Colorado? Or maybe Denver, with shuttle?

Before flight would mean not factoring that cost in. So either one. What he is saying is registration/fees only are going to be $1700.

Thanks, but what I was indirectly asking was 'Where is it?' Once we know that, we can calculate expenses.
I've heard Northern Colorado for about a year now, but seen no formal confirmation.

FWIW, I'm assuming that most of us would fly into Denver, which is a hub for Frontier and United.

It's here, in Estes Park. Brochures were distributed at this year's Congress.

I am not going to believe or disbelieve any rumors about costs until they are actually announced.

They handed out brochures for YMCA at Estes Park: https://ymcarockies.org

I also hereby start a counter-rumor that the costs will be similar to most years. Far far less than $1500. But don't quote me. :geek:

Conservatively rounding up from the published 2019 costs:
Registration $325 to $525
Lodging, seven nights, $300 to $450
Meals, all $150

I get a rough estimate of $800 to $1300. For a full meal single who is registering late, that’s close to $1500.

The YMCA camp in Estes Park was approved as the venue for the 2020 US Go Congress at the last US Go Congress.
If I recall correctly, registration, housing and food was somewhere in that neighborhood given by Dwyrin for shared housing. Going to private rooms put it in the 2000-2500 range, with all included as well. The huge variable to cost was housing, where you stay and with how many roommates. Estes Park is expensive during the summer.

The US Go Congress is just once a year, so large difference in registration cost isn't necessarily that big amortized across the entire year. Let's say that registration is $1k more expensive - that's less than $20 a week.

This probably isn't a strong argument, since various participants are in different financial situations. But still, spread across the entire year, a cost difference like this could be manageable.

That being said, I entirely advocate a low-cost go congress, if it's possible!

Thanks for the replies guys! I didn't know most Congress goers have their housing/food set up through the USGO Congress. I probably will be looking for Airbnb or hotels, so it never crossed my mind that his estimate would be with lodging/food. Hope to see you all next year!

I am not the ABnB type, good luck nailing that down. I’d suggest booking now. Let us know how that works out, cost- and distance to the site-wise.

Estes Park is a year-round resort city and hotels run about twice what the YMCA charges for their multi-occupant rooms. A quick Expedia search found the lowest priced (one-star and non-rated) hotels/motels might be a long drive from the YMCA convention center and still run about $200/night or $1400 for the week. Deeper research would probably find better opportunities. The YMCA center is quite a ways from town. There are some lodges and BnBs on the road but they look like a long walk if you don’t have a car.

The congress prices for 2020 are all inclusive. The prices will include: registration, room, and meals(breakfast and lunch). It was explained that there are many places to have dinner on site and around the congress site. There may also be some theamed meals during the week but it was not explained further. Prices will be between $1100 and $2000. This will be an expensive congress because it is a very very popular vacation area in Colorado. The site is ~1.5hrs from Denver airport as well which will have shuttles to get to the site. I did not take a pic during the general assembly meeting as we heard the information would be out soon. When I get that full info it will be posted to see. It was suggested that you register early for the best style of room when registration is available. 30% payment will be required to fully book the room.
