One of these years... one of these years I'll finally make it!
Next year Colorado, you say? Hmmm... that's definitely getting it much closer to my neck of the woods.
Hope all who are there are having lots of fun.

Re: Does having 9 big bolded points unduly influence human p
It hurts me on a deeply emotional level that "kids these days" are already unable to understand how these work. And I'm not even that old! But I guess I am in the 30+ range, so fit in with the expected demographic.
I've also seen that video before... oh man do they get close, and yet so far.

Re: European Go Cultural Centre is closing its doors
The Go pro economy in Asia is also based on amateur players paying for them, directly or indirectly.
The fact that certified pros exist is supposed to boost the Go popularity, not to hurt it.
But that's the question, isn't it? Is it helping or hurting?
That's the question that Knotwilg is asking ...

Re: Some threads are almost unusable slow to load in browser
This sounds like a new instance of a very old complaint/concern/problem that people have had with loading large numbers of posts per page.
We process every diagram every time it loads, so it makes sense that with diagram heavy pages the server is being tasked with doing an enormous amount of work ...

Re: Anyone ever stain a board?
Sai? ... Is that you?!?
Glad I'm not the only one that thought this.
To OP: How rough is the wood? Unless it's a really thick stain, that's not going to help the roughness much. Will definitely change the appearance! Applying polyurethane could help with the roughness, but again won't help a lot ...

Re: How many go clubs have you visited?
Just one for me:
Gallatin Valley Go Club (Bozeman, MT) - Now long defunct
I've driven by the Seattle Go club a few times when I was visiting Seattle with the wife, but never had any time to stop in. Will need to make that happen the next time I'm there - at least so I can double my Go club count ...

Re: What methods have you ACTUALLY TESTED to get new members
I may see if I can affiliate the club with the American Go Foundation.
Affiliating the club with the AGF may be a way to get some additional supplies for your club. When the club I was associated with started up, they were able to get some supplies/grant(s) to purchase supplies from the AGF ...

some nerd drama Do tell ? :blackeye:
Some of the "leadership" really wanted to change the night so another friend of their's could show up, so they did a vote. The vote was questionable and sort of felt like a formality on something they wanted (and what do you know, the new night won). At the ...

Re: What methods have you ACTUALLY TESTED to get new members
Glad (well, kind of...) to see that it is not just a problem in the two clubs I have been a long-time member. At this point I don't know what to do apart maybe, as you suggested, targeting specific populations. The club I attend now has, like yours, around 8-10 members on a normal/good evening ...

Re: What methods have you ACTUALLY TESTED to get new members
Back when I was part of an active club, here are some of the things we did:
Played in the SUB (Student Union Building) on the local university campus
Result: Got some walk-through traffic, and a couple people stopped by, but did not pick up any new members that I can remember (on campus chess ...

Re: Moderation on the PGETC Leela cheating case thread
John, given you desire for less heavy-handed moderation, I wonder what is your view of that chap who I thought was rather rude to you on the Shusai thread?
Well, he was certainly rude (and worse: wrong) about Shusai. I suppose you could also say he was rude to me but it was like the waft of a ...

Re: Kingo Malkovitch#1: Jeromie vs. Hyperpape
Not for players.
I'm still waiting for there to be more direct play around the kings. Ed mentioned some possibilities around C14 and seems to me that black could work that to an advantage forcing around an instant lose piece. Seems like now would be the time to try and work that to an advantage ...

Two coworkers had a pair of the glasses, so we swapped back and forth between a group of us.
95% coverage where I was. Definitely cool to see. But did make me regret not driving the few hours it would have taken to get to totality. Oh well.

Re: My WP go blog is now open to the public once again
Let's just say I had some unpleasant experiences in the past but decided to reopen it now.
If the unpleasant experiences involved comments by readers, is it possible to make it possible not to allow comments but still keep it open for reading only?
This was a combination of things that happened ...
