Notes. There are older links still around. Check version numbers/dates.

You do need to mess around in the diretories a bit (uploading sgfs).. ok with a good app "ES file explorer" must be installed for this.

Nook Touch as go study aid

Some time back someone here made a post about using an e-ink touch screen device as a Go tool. Since that time iPads and the like have taken over the world and the e-ink tablet has fallen a little by the wayside and is largely the instrument of that dying breed of people who want to read.

I have a ...

Re: Oldest board game in the world that we know the rules of

I actually had the "game of Ur" in the 1970's - I played it after I gave up on go the first time (no one to play with). Ihasten to add it was a copy of the board and peices from the British museum.

The symmetry of the board and pieces make it look like a predecessor of backgammon. There were rules ...

Re: Nova.gs -- A modern web go server

I played a game on this last night (against a 30 Kyu - I got killed).

I must say I really like the server.Good feel and it's got features like groups, tournaments (planned) that I would like to use. The correspondence -> live feature is good.

We tried a Malkovich type live game but the strain ...

Is go really that bad?

I returned from my go club a couple of nights back and left my portable goban on the back seat of my car. The car was in a secure underground car park and the security is such that no car had ever been broken into.

The goban comes in a nice bag.. the stones and bowls are good and the board is often ...

Re: Bank Transfers

Use Moneybookers or Neteller.

Instant clearing between users and many sites. Withdrawal through international debit card.

Be aware that they are very aware of money laundering.

Re: Olympic badminton - any lessons for go?

During my time playing online poker (2002-2006) the technology and rules framework were open to numerous exploits. I doubt I was the first but I certainly championed and used "short stacking" as a way of reducing rake and rapid multitabling to maximise profits. Certainly I was never banned for doing ...

Bats lectures on youtube are a key resource. Not only are they good but they are well presented and continuous.

You might also highlight Eurogo TV.

Go s interesting from the learning point of view because content is not the problem. In fact, there is too much content. Online learning has devalued ...

Re: Positive Discrimination in Go

Board games attract a certain demographic.
Ball room dancing is notorious for not having enough men.
If you go to a gym you'll see a large proportion of the clients are women.
Flower arranging societies just can't get any male members for some reason. See here:

Re: equipment warning

I'm surprised at this. Amazon UK use Zen Minded and with nearly 600 reviews they scored 4.9/5 - i.e very good.

If you have the bill and the money has left your account then they can't contest it and they won't even try if it was bought on a credit card because of the CCA.
