Re: PGETC with Skype

I read that Denmark withdrew from the league because of the new rule.

South Africa almost withdrew due to the difficulty putting a team together. We've had to call up on our Korea-based member just to get four in the team, I expect we'll be a board or two short for some of our upcoming games.

In ...

Re: PGETC with Skype

The european online league, or the PGETC as we all know it, has moved to enforce playing with Skype.
Or more specifically, Skype with sitting in front of the computer like it was a real life tournament, in full view of camera, no headphones, no telephone, not leaving your chair unless you explain ...

Re: Following Nakamura Sumire

I came across Telegraph Go only this week.

Yeah, me too. Really impressed with the channel. Fills a niche, imo, interesting and educational content aimed at strong kyus and weakish dans. I don't always agree with some of his opinions/conclusions, but appreciate the effort he has made to ...

Re: PGETC : Ratings

We did discuss with the EGD administration about entering our tournaments onto the database. The main sticking point as I recall was that our rating system is much more active, as we accept club games into our rating system. This would have required frequent rank adjustments, which the EGD isn't a ...

Re: PGETC : Ratings

Most players from South Africa do not have an EGD entry, and those that do will have it from a one-off WAGC event attended years ago. The PGETC guidance we have is to use our internal rating system, and have done so since we were added to the tournament.

Re: An improvement plan for the London Open

Gamesmanship is an unfortunate word, perhaps you should rather use the phrase "game management" since that's mostly what you're talking about.

I recently played in the South African championships (a closed tournament to the top 8 players), and won one of my games against someone making their debut ...

Re: WAGC 2019

When I was there they seeded by your country's result last year and then the top 4 each went into their own quarter of the draw for the first round. It was possible for one of those top 4 to play a weak player in the first round which could hurt their SOS in case of tiebreak at the end (e.g ...

A small gift for the community: https://openuserjs.org/install/quantumf/WAGC_player.user.js

If you have Greasemonkey or Tampermonkey, this will enrich the results columns in the table with the country of the opponents rather than the number.

Ah the great wall opening. A very fun way to play. I strongly recommend players in the 10k-5k range try it a few times.
