Re: Go and spare time without net access

I think I do, e.g. Invincible and Graded Go Problems (I - IV), Lessons in the fundamentals, etc. Any books you are especially fond of?

Go and spare time without net access

Hi,

In march I'll have five free days with about 4 hours of time for go (daily) if I choose. The catch: I won't have internet access. So, what are my options for studying and enojying the game? Reviewing commented pro games? Tsumego? ...?

I'm open for any ideas,

Thanks,
mic

Re: Simple question regarding Tesuji by Davies

Hello Prodigious & Toge,

thanks for your extensive replies. But I am especially interested in the mistake which lead Black gain two points but let white connect (see citation in my post above). According to the book this should be possible after W answered with T13 after Black S15. Any hints are ...

Re: Simple question regarding Tesuji by Davies

I think you need to have another look at the book - the w2 that works is on t14 not t13 :p
I know, sorry, should have stated my question better: the book says that "only White a [W2] is at all tricky, (it invites a mistake in which Black captures two of the White stones but misses the rest)." I ...

Simple question regarding Tesuji by Davies

Hi,

maybe it's the time but I can't see why White's response for Black 1 prevent's Black from cutting (cf. p. 9). I've attached the diagram and my thoughts on White's responses. I am pretty sure I'm missing something obvious, but obviously can't see it . Hence, any hints are appreciated.

Re: I don't see any obvious mistakes, pointers appreciated

I'd like to thank all reviewers for their helpful tips. While submitting the game for review I did not thought that I made so many mistakes, now I think a bit different about this particular game (and probably about my play in general).

The bad thing about go is that you have always more to learn ...

Re: I don't see any obvious mistakes, pointers appreciated

After 32 plays?

Black has definetly a weak group at the bottom, but white's left side is getting to big. Hence, the following moves of black which lead to the creation of a second weak group. I think if I hadn't done the second invasion at all, i.e. only playing reduction moves, the game would ...

I don't see any obvious mistakes, pointers appreciated

Hello,

in this recent game I took my time especially in the beginning. Although I lost I don't see any mistakes, i.e. points where I could have played much better. Hence any pointers where I might have played better are much appreciated.

Re: Bad Habits?

Hi,

great topic, I often have the same problems. I think by eliminating 2), 3) and 1) (in this order) I could become threes stones stronger. I'm currently trying to tackle these bad habits one at a time by taking small steps and hope to gain the right momentum. By my personal experience this should ...

Hi,

24. March, 2004 -- I wonder how well I'd play if I hadn't have long gaps of not playing at all. Nevertheless, trying to change this now :)

Re: One of the first games after a long pause

I'm not much stronger than you, but I think your go could get a lot better if you use your time better

Fair enough, you're right. I've only recently started playing and still have to control my urge to play fast and simply click on the first intersection that jumps into my eye. I think my ...

One of the first games after a long pause

Hi,

since I have not played for a couple of months, KGS ratd my 3d? initially and I'm slowly regaining my old rank. Today I've played a game against a 4k and won by 0.5 points. I'd be happy if someone could point out one or two things I should keep an eye on in future games.

Kind regards,
Michael ...

Invincible in SmartGo Books

Hi,

Having recently bought an iPad this will be one of my first purchases, although I already own the hardcover version! Great idea, I am looking for more books in the future!

Cheers,

Michael
