Thank you gowan. I feel honored getting help from a 5d. I will try soap and then talcum powder. I might try wax first. I used to have some stuff called "drawer wax" for lubricating wooden drawers. Haven't been able to find any recently.

Thanks for the quick response. I had always heard that slotted gobans were designed for travel. For example, Sensei's says: Foldable and Slotted (non magnetic)

I just bought a slotted Katsura goban. It is very difficult to slide the two halves together or to take them apart. I haven't been able to slide them together completely. I've noticed this streakiness when playing the computer or working on problems. My explanation is that Go requires a different way of looking at things.
