Re: The Reign of Ke Jie
I've not noticed, but then "playing 4-4s only 55% of the time instead of 65% of the time" is far less noticeable when idling watching the latest pro games than these early 3-3s are.
Of course. Perhaps someone proficient with pattern searching software could give us figures for the number of 4-4s ...

Re: The Reign of Ke Jie
Is there any implication to 4-4s in the opening? Are they decreasing in relative preference to e.g., 4-3?

Re: FineArt against Chinese pros
The bottom line is the more calculation and the less evaluation position requires -- the better chances you have.
I thought I would never read something like this in my life. Are we at a position where AI's weak points are calculation and not evaluation? This is the opposite of what everyone ...

Re: Google Code Jam
Java IO is awful for competitions, and you must remember to use BufferedReader as Scanner might be too slow for reading the input. Although CodeJam is better in this regard, as they let you download the large file and give you a few minutes.

Re: Will AI ever beat humans at Go with energy parity?
Just switch to 21x21 board and you'll have another 10 years of laughing at the computer attempts to beat an average amateur.
I have the impression that this would backfire spectacularly. There is nothing special about 19x19, all the training could simply be replicated on 21x21. Human knowledge ...

Re: Will AI ever beat humans at Go with energy parity?
This question surprises me. If we change the question to "when will AI beat humans at Go with energy parity?", then I expect the answer to be along the lines of "3 months ago", or something close.

No! Playing with someone who knows their own rank - it might be you, or it might be online. Once 2 or 3 people know their rank, the rest can find theirs by playing handicap games.

Re: jury+ swim programming help wanted
I'm not a big fan of consensus approaches as my experience says that either they require manually tuning weights, or they lead to always playing the move of the strongest bot. Would you rather play the 9d move, or the move that 10 6d bots recommend?
Nevertheless, this got me thinking: bots could be ...

Re: Online-Go.com (OGS) User Interface Open-Sourced
I think that the "Pull Requests" page is even more impressive.
The project was open sourced 5 or 6 days ago and there have been more than 50!!! pull requests by 9!!! different users (eyeballing the numbers).
For those of you who don't know what a pull request is: someone found a bug in the code ...

Whenever you have time to do a few UI/UX tweaks:
- There is no way to know the current move number.
- Keyboard shortcuts (at least left/right to go over the game) would be nice.

Re: The Master Files
There was a video posted somewhere here in the forum showing Chen and Meng playing live on WeiqiTV. I don't speak chinese, but from the description (and if I remember correctly), Chen would make the decision based on Meng's input. At 30sec/move, I wonder how much input Meng could realistically ...

Re: Who's playing in Tygem? -- It was AlphaGo!!
In any case, we see that the winning probability is higher playing White from the very beginning. The immediate interpretation would seem to be that komi is too large and gives White an advantage. This is consistent with many players' opinion based on human vs human play. The lines seem very ...

For instance, you immediately disregarded the research on eye movement and underlined that one has to fallback to reading as "any other way is incomplete".

Robert: In your effort to show that Bill was wrong, you failed to even understand the broad points of his message.
