Re: I want to develop software similar to Josekifarm
Database curation doesn't sound like much fun to me, that's why I went for datamining pro games with dailyjoseki.com. dailyjoseki.com's latency problem is pretty easily fixable, just haven't had time to do it. Nearly all the time is spent in schlepping stuff across the internet to your browser. I ...

Re: AGA rules and cultural barriers
Imagine a player realizes a cycle has occurred and claims no result, and the opponent thinks a cycle hasn't yet occurred and wants to continue (believing they can still win if they deviate from the cycle and give up the triple ko). The TD has to rewind the game to figure out who is correct.
Or ...

Re: AGA rules and cultural barriers
In practice, unwinding games is equally difficult for superko and Japanese style long cycle rules, because the same kind of move sequences are the basis for rules applications.
There is no need to unwind for Japanese long cycles. Both players realize there is no method to break out of cycle, and ...

Re: Algorithms for User Interface
Hm. I don't remember it being that bad. Maybe I broke something last time I changed it? Anyway, this is definitely a case where you're getting what you're paying for.

I really want to work more on this, but I just haven't had time and it doesn't really look like that's going to change much soon.

Hi Daniel.
I was sort of disappointed that your tool seems to give random scores for the same position. Are you still developing it?
It is a bit of a work in progress.
What position were you putting in?
Unfortunately, I don't have much time to work on this lately.

Re: AGA rules and cultural barriers
I suppose one could argue that territory counting encourages laziness by not requiring you to determine if it's safe to fill in dame (since the game could end before dame are filled)... But I think we stray from the point.

Re: AGA rules and cultural barriers
With AGA rules, it doesn't matter if the players use area or territory counting; the effect of the pass stone/white pass last combo is that they'll get the same winner no matter how they count.
It's important to realize that--if you happen to have one of those rare games in which (without pass ...

Re: Is it rude to play out a ~15 pts loss (at 5k)?
There's only one case where it's rude to play out a game.
You know you've lost, and you can tell your opponent thinks it's rude to play out a lost game.
The first part is easy, just ask yourself if you think you've lost.
I don't think this is so easy, because there isn't a binary true/false ...
