Re: The demotion SAFEZONE

I agree with your point that for somebody seeking to play many games the inactive players are a burden, they don't provide these games, and they take place of other potentially more active ones. But you need to agree that the threshold of activity/inactivity should be set to some value. And, after a ...

killing vs. living

When solving tsumego (and, probably, during the games too, but you never know) I find it much easier to kill than to live. When the problem is 'to kill/capture' I'm finding the eye-shape ruining moves much more 'naturally' than finding eye-shape creating moves when the problem is 'to live'.

The ...

Re: The demotion SAFEZONE

I don't understand, don't you review ALL the games you play in the league? Who will get the additional bonus points, the reviewer for the review or the reviewee for not running away after the loss (happened to me once, to a great surprise).

Gamma is not just an additional month of waiting in order ...

Re: How do you stay motivated to keep studying go?

Read Borges' "The Zahir" then come back if you still do not understand what I am saying.

I'm not sure I understand. I only wanted to make a point that scheduling/making goals is the same old (and 'primitve') reward system. You get (self-)rewarded for achieving a goal you set to yourself, and you ...

Re: How do you stay motivated to keep studying go?

My interest goes in bursts, too. Go can be so interesting that's its hard to stop thinking about it, so I have to discipline myself to prevent it from disrupting the rest of my life. The act of winding down (and the circumstances that make it necessary to do so) then dampens my interest for a while ...

Re: Help me understand why these stones are dead (9x9)

It's 8 from empty bulky five. The calculation is - 4 stones w, 1 stone b to capture, 3 stones w, 1 b, 2 w, 1 b, 2 w. We get 11 w vs 3 b, so b has only 8 extra moves to fill in outside liberties. And indeed, for 6-space nakade we need to add 5w 1b in the beginning of the sequence, which results in 12 ...

Re: Help me understand why these stones are dead (9x9)

The only condition is that the surrounding stones must be alive and not capturable because it actually takes 12 moves to go through the process of capturing if you start out with a bulky five. If the surrounding stones don't have 12 liberties then you could be in trouble.

I think to kill bulky ...

Re: IGS Connection problems ?

I play/watch games on IGS pretty regularly, and did not experience any connection problems. Sometimes, usually during title matches with high number of spectators, the games list can load slowly, but everything works just fine. I'm using GoPanda2 or panda-tetsuki (with the latter being more stable).

Funny, the 'bug report' feature is not working. When you press OK to send the report nothing happens. Cancel button works just fine )).
Sent the report by e-mail (it was about switching rooms and updating players/games lists not working properly).

Re: Thinking of learning Chinese (or Japanese)

On a related subject. I started to learn Japanese now, and I would like to (try to) read some go related material online. Can anybody give an advice on some good online resources, which are updated regularly?
(didn't mean to hijack the thread, just though it is closely related)
