Thanks very much everyone,
This was an even more busy time than I expected. I read _The Master of Go_ (also interlibrary loan, really liked it!) and a lot of _Invincible!_, and then got the brainwave to copy the games I wanted to play out later. I managed to catch most of the ones suggested above ...

Invincible!, the "must see" games?
I have John Powers', _Invincible!_ through inter-library loan for a few weeks.
I hope to read all of the text but with my schedule I will probably have time to race through only a dozen games using Drago and GoGoD, and really study a handful more slowly on a board.
Given these constraints what ...

Re: Seeking high quality glass stones
Hey thanks a lot!
Now that you mention it, others have mentioned a certificate too. I'm pretty sure none was included with these.
Thanks again for the translation.

Re: Seeking high quality glass stones
Right on! Thanks
So far I have puzzled out this much:
in the top blue half from left to right:
[two unknown ideograms] "real clam Igo stones"
Then the white bottom half, on the left, above each other:
[two unknown ideograms] "clam white stones"
"Real Nachi black stones"

Re: Seeking high quality glass stones
Thanks all,
I've been researching the choices to a degree that is approaching neither sane nor balanced -- but educational for sure!
Kiseido and Yutopian have a close business relationship and there are stories about Yutopian fulfilling USA book orders for Kiseido, in fact they answer their phone ...

Wow, I just noticed these. Anyone know how they compare with Kiseido's? Same manufacturer?

Re: Seeking high quality glass stones
Ed Lee,
Thanks for the question, it's a good one. Thinking it over I feel even more like getting the good Japanese set and I may still get another $20 set for your reason above. Here are some answers that percolate up, I may have more too.

Re: Seeking high quality glass stones
These look the most promising so far:
Korean stones, 22.0mm $80 ($75 on sale) I don't know anything about the store though.
http://www.thegamesupply.com/product/22810K
Japanese, Kiseido states, "21.2mm white and 21.8mm" black, which suggests rigorous attention to uniformity. $100 ...

Seeking high quality glass stones
I'd like a set of good glass stones but haven't found any in the Seattle area stores that are of very good quality in terms of consistent size, thickness and shoulders and without chips.
Even some shopkeepers recommended buying a set online. I'm willing to pay a premium price if I can be sure of a ...

Re: Agathis (known as new Katsura) from Yutopian
I bought this same board from Yutopian about seven years ago and am very happy with it. It is built from about four sections and washed with a transparent stain that helps unify the color. The playing grid is well done and the board arrived in good shape -- no dings. I'd buy it again if I were ...

Re: Puzzle -- Seattle Go Center sign game
Awesome! Thanks.
TMark let me shamelessly plug yours and Mr. Fairbairn's GoGoD, it is definitely the best money I've spent for Go so far. I cannot imagine how anyone could not possibly wrangle a stone or several improvement with study. Any of the several features alone would make it worthwhile, but ...

Re: Is KGS game server down?
Solved:
My friend's DSL router has a stateful firewall built in. I opened port 2379 with the following rules table entries.
added to OUTbound rules:
pass to port 2379 >> done
added to INbound rules:
pass protocol tcp, to port 2379 >> done
Everything fine after that.
Thanks

Is KGS game server down?
I'm at a friend's for the weekend and am unable to get into KGS games. Trying to login as a guest (which works elsewhere) fails right now. Because no one else has asked this yet (been several hours now) I suspect it's my friend's system configuration.
I get this message, after about 30-seconds ...
