I like some of David Edding's work. I think the first series is called the The Belgariad. Its fantasy. It doesn't feel quite like Tolkien to me, although like you said, a lot of fantasy rolls down that hill. It does share some of the same ideas.

I don't study that much, my day ends with me logging onto KGS in the evening and watching/playing some games or just replaying pro games and some reading. I try to do a few tsumego problems before I sleep, but I would say that in a day I only study for about an hour or so.

When I first started playing it took me a while and many games to improve past 20k. I'm around 15k right now, but playing some people who are about 14k or 13k I'm finding that they way I currently play just isn't good enough.
