Re: The Annoying Dead

if you took away the white stones inside it we'd say it was alive. It's just that Inkwolf assumed two eyes = unconditional life how ever many stones white plays inside and let the computer get an eye inside his big eye

Ahh, I see your point. My understanding of a double eye structure is one which ...

Re: Choice of Goban

Apologies for missing this post! I’ve been focusing on studying and tried to avoid the temptation to distract myself looking at boards etc…rather than playing
I would suggest that you consider what you expect to use the board for.
Hmm, well, I’ve since decided to pick up a nice table board first ...

Re: The Annoying Dead

Hmm, there's no solid eyes there, unfortunately. That entire group only has one liberty, and when you take that solitary white stone, you'll still only have one liberty left...white then follows up with a single move to kill your group, as it can take that final liberty.

If that white group in the ...

Re: First game review - 14k v 15k

Thankyou all for your advice and time! It's really appreciated! I will re-read it until it sticks and try to improve those aspects of my game over the next week. This was one of the first games where I've tried to consider shape, so, glad you've been able to point out many areas where I can improve ...

First game review - 14k v 15k

Hi,

This is my first game for review...trying a lot of new things here that I've learnt recently...hoping there's some advice. UNfortunately I lost by 12.5 points...

My analysis is:

Move 81 maybe should have been F3?
Move 99 is a waste
Move 140 was just a bad move...no idea why I made it. Should ...

Re: My journey to Shodan!

If you're finding it hard to play many games its worth opening up 30 or so games on OGS.

playing with a board isn't as good as the real thing - using a computer..!

Just opened an OGS game earlier as I've finished five or six recently But you're right, I should open a few more to get some more ...

Re: My journey to Shodan!

Well, that was a pretty solid weekend of Go. I've no idea how many games, but, I managed to get a decent amount of time with http://senseis.xmp.net/?AnYounggil . I also spent my down time there reading Opening Theory Made Easy, and finished that without too much trouble. Almost to SDK ...

Re: My journey to Shodan!

Well, still going well!

We have an 8p coming along to our Go Club tonight, in preparation for our states annual Go Tournament. Looking forward to it! Also have a game tonight with a friend in prep for the tournament. The tsumego, as some predicted, aren't going as fast as I'd like, but, overall ...

Re: Neurological study regarding Go's effects on the brain

So, does this mean there is something "wrong" with the test? Or is there something wrong with people who devote every waking monent to just one thing?

I suspect neither The test is good for general intelligence...but some people simply excel at one thing, which says nothing about general ...

Re: My journey to Shodan!

Well, I've already gained a few stones...it's hard to find the time to play a lot of serious games, but I play whenever possible. Here's my current study plan:

Study at least 20-30 minutes of Tsumego a day
Play at least 5 serious games a week online
Play several social games to relax and ...
