I'll vary between playing 3-4 or 4-4 as my first move as Black, and if my opponent plays a stone in the opposite corner I'll usually follow with the low Chinese or Kobayashi. If they play the diagonal, mini Chinese.
White I always start at the opposite corner to stop the mini Chinese. Usually ...

Re: 10 games match Lee Sedol vs Gu Li
I'm excited for this, but I wish it happened a few years ago when both players were in their primes. Gu hasn't been the same since 2011.

Re: Xie Yimin wins Women's Honinbo 5th year straight
Btw: I know it's been discussed before, but do the women's titles count towards the 90 wins for promotion?
I don't see why they shouldn't, but I don't think there's a clear answer for that.
She's been averaging 28 wins a year since 2006 (according to Mr. Kin's records), so I definitely wouldn't ...

Why doesn't Japan have a sponsored Igo League?
I was just wondering this: how come Japan doesn't have a team league like the Korean Baduk League and Chinese A League? I think it would be beneficial to introduce a league in place of some tournaments. For example, Japan has four hayago tournaments. You could easily replace two of them (Ryusei, NEC ...

I don't think I was the only one who made his picks based on thinking that the competition would start at the beginning of the season (instead of things like Kuksu final and whatnot), so we should catch up.
I thought about doing it that way, but it felt like there would be too few games to look ...

I think it all depends on how many people are willing to participate. How about adding a list of participants to the first post?

Re: Kuchinashi Tournament Time?
It'd be nice if the information was organized somewhere. I tried running a league tournament for a go community that I'm apart of on KGS (that unfortunately didn't work out too well) and posted results, biographies and tournament information on a free Wikia website. It'd be cool if there were a L19 ...

I'm too lazy to sift through this thread, but is 7d the highest rank you can achieve? If so, I like it. I like it a lot.

Re: Kuchinashi Tournament Time?
I would propose that all rounds before the quarter-finals be best of one. Then quarter-finals and semi-finals best of three, with a best of five final.
It depends on how many people are willing to participate, though.

Re: Memorising pro games
If you want very normal openings: Hane Naoki, Takao Shinji, Kong Jie, Xie He, Gu Li (The Three E's, as I like to call them) and for Korean flavour Kang Dongyun.
I would advise straying away from studying pro games before the Shinfuseki period if you want good openings.
However, if you want to ...
