Re: Mainstream Go Sightings

Go appears in The Apothecary Diaries at least a few times. I am told that Episode 23 contains a significant Go game. (A friend texted me about it and sent the images, I am not that far in the series yet.)

Re: Aji's Quest

Thanks for getting here ahead of me, I have been putting things off so badly lately! :D
Yes, those who wanted me to put out a paper version can now rejoice that someone with more energy has done the work for me (and paid me for it!)

Re: Aji's Quest

Since I never got around to making a new website, and the old one is just gone now, you can now read Aji's Quest on DeviantArt, where the images were hosted all this time, anyway. The first post in the thread has been updated to reflect the new URL.

Re: Aji's Quest

Okay, it seems Earthlink was bought out in January and the company is now discontinuing the personal web spaces. However, my site is actually up again, it seems, and will be up (view-only not editable) for a year. Oddly, the front page will not load in my Firefox browser at all, but I can access it ...

Re: Aji's Quest

Yeah, sorry about that. Last week my site suddenly disappeared. I thought maybe Earthlink had discontinued the old personal webspaces and hadn't bothered to tell me, but just before I planned to contact support, a page went up saying the webpage was being 'migrated' by which I assume they mean they ...

Recommend Android Go apps?

Hi! Four or so years ago, I bought an Android tablet, and downloaded every Go app available at that time. (Not many!) Now I've finally been forced to update my tablet due to the natural bloating of appware relative to my minuscule 8g of memory. In the meantime, lots of my Go apps were uninstalled to ...

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings

"Tonari No Seki-kun (My Neighbor Seki) The Master of Killing Time" is an anime made up of five-minute short episodes. Yokoi is a girl who sits at the back of the class, next to a boy named Seki, who spends his time doing anything but studying...he builds elaborate domino arrays, enacts period dramas ...

Re: Question about on-line go etiquette

I believe it's proper etiquette for the loser to request the review?

Does anyone know the answer to this?

If I'm unintentionally being rude -- that might explain the rude replies! As I see it, I often review my games regardless of the outcome. So, when I have time for a review, I always invite ...

One has to assume that the other go bowl was broken, and they use the lid in place of the black bowl.

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings

I can't find a screenshot, but very close to the beginning of "Kubo and the Two Strings" the young protagonist goes into his village and passes two old men playing Go.

Not related to plot, and not remarked upon in any way, but it was nice to see

Here's that screenshot for you!

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings

Here are the three frames I could capture of the old guy at the table. I think you will agree that at least the second frame looks far more like a black go stone than any alternative.

It was definitely go, if you look carefully, he is playing a black stone.

Re: How do you hold a go stone?

I think I do it occasionally, too, quite possibly because I play with a lot of kids who don;t really care about any 'correct' way to hold the stone.

I got started with Hikaru No Go, of course, so I started practicing the correct way to hold a stone right after episode 2/3...which was hard to do ...

Re: Iyama Yuta in Go No Igo!

I watched all those Go Go Igo segments, first when I was learning the game, second when teaching kids to play. The second time I looked up Iyama Yuta to see how he's been doing since then. That made him the first modern Go pro who had name recognition for me.

Really, though, there's some ...
