Re: How to find Korean clubs in the US?

I went to visit Fort Lee Go Club yesterday. My previous post shows the old address. Their new address is

406 Main Street
Fort Lee, NJ 07024

It is next to a Chinese restaurant and although it says parking for restaurant only, you can park in the back for the go club use (according to the owner ...

Re: IGS ranking = KGS ranking

I played a handi game witha 10k on KGS. He told me that his rating went up just watching the lectures. WTF??

So, I was not too surprised when I tested another 12k on KGS. I waited for him to simply hane to get rid of my second eye (really basic shape cut and dry) and it never came. So, though of ...

Re: IGS ranking = KGS ranking

It seems ideal way to start is to play with bots on KGS and start playing until you get to about 10-12k and move over to igs with ranking of 16k. IGS BC and 17k should be avoided.

Re: Not that strong...

In IGS it is very very difficult to play even games until you are 16k. At BC and 17k, too many fake ranks with more than 1000 rated games.

You almost want to play elsewhere until you can play even games with 16k on IGS. Once you get there you have dozens at equal level at any given time.

If you ...

IGS ranking = KGS ranking

This is a double post. But, I doubt that KGS people frequent IGS so I'm posting here as well.

My son is about 13k on IGS but seems much stronger than 9k on KGS
I play about 2k on IGS and 2k on KGS seems easy.

KGS 5d says IGS 5d was easy.

So, I believe there is a crossover point somewhere. Does ...

I can swipe to get to the chat window from

play, open, record tabs. But, none allow you to get a list of active games to view from.

Found it under menu.

KGS Android App

Is the app for playing only? I bought this couple of days ago to view games on KGS while out eating or something like that. I was surprised to find only playing option was available.

I play about 2k on IGS and 2k on KGS seems easy.

KGS 5d says IGS 5d was easy.

So, I believe there is a crossover point somewhere. Does anyone know what that is? 1-2d?

Re: Not that strong...

IGS has strong players at BC (beginner class = 18k) and at 17k and start to stabilize around 15-16k. So, real 17-18ks have tough time rising above that to 15-16k level. But, once you make it past that, it is extremely consistent while being much stronger than kgs at the same level.

My son is at 13 ...

Re: How to find Korean clubs in the US?

I'm glad you enjoyed. In the past, salon rooms would be smoke filled and I would have to change clothes as soon as I get home. They were also resistant to no smoking law as customers would drop off. But, I imagine much have changed in past 9 years.

.. and I enjoyed your blog. :)

Re: Achieving 1k (Korean Kyu) Series Video by Kim Won 7p

He is deliberately using easy joseki to prove a point that you do not need to know gazillion joseki to be a 1keup. He says that it is merely knowing but applying which joseki makes you 1k, 5k or even 9k.

The later videos go little more as first 3 are more like an intro.

These are mostly targeting ...

Re: Achieving 1k (Korean Kyu) Series Video by Kim Won 7p

There was an interesting topic on Joseki for Thick. It covers the difference between influence Joseki vs thick Joseki. It covers how thick joseki can turn into over concentrated. It would have been good if it had subtitle for non Korean speaking audience.
