Re: KGS appear to be using "proper" installers

I recommend testing the new client before getting rid of your old one. The jar file didn't work for me on Ubuntu 15.10 - it would freeze every time I tried to accept a game. The old Java Web Start client still works fine.

Same here, since this was my first install on a Linux machine (Mint, 17.3 ...

Re: Denver, Colorado Go club

Not sure about Unicorn's club but there was group that met at the Mercury Cafe near downtown on some Sunday afternoons. They are still listed on the AGA website as an active club. See if you can contact BaghwanB here on L19, he was a member of the group.

psk31 reboot

Hi all,

Dropping back in. Started playing in 2010 just before the US Go Congress was held in Colorado Springs, CO. Lucky for me it was just an hour down the road and I took a week of from work and jumped into the deep end of the pool so to speak. Had a blast, met several of our L19 family there ...

Just saw this on the Wall Street Journal's website talking about the new Wii U touchpad controller. The first picture in the series...

Just noticed how the caption says a "Parcheesi-like game". It does bring up possiblities though.

Re: pseudonyms, anonymity, and protecting your personal iden

If you're really the semi-paranoid type take a look at the Wall Street Journal's series under the Tech section called "What They Know", almost enough to keep a person off the net.

My other hobby is amateur (ham) radio. As such, my full name and address is listed with my FCC assigned call sign on ...

Re: Popularity of Go

Increasing the base of the very casual player will be the foundation to increasing the popularity. I know there are clubs that meet in the local bookstores, cafes, etc., very public places. While I'm sure that players in these venues would gladly answer any questions from folks passing by, how many ...

Re: September DDK Swiss

Hey thanks Chew! Just took a quick look at it, good to know that at least we had the right ideas sometimes. As you can tell from the comments we both thought we were doing horrible. Now if I can just figure out how not to lose big groups!

Re: September DDK Swiss

Rafa and I have played our first match, win for Rafa (can't post the game right now). Two attempts to play the second have been thwarted by technical issues, Rafa with no power first attempt and me with USB modem issues on the second. We're scheduled to play Saturday at 14:00 GMT.

Re: My comp got f'd

I got lucky a couple of months back and found a Toshiba T-135 Satellite on sale. It's almost like a netbook on steroids, small and lightweight but with a full size keyboard. No cd/dvd drive but amazingly the only time I've needed one has been to load GoGoD (copied the contents to a USB first). Best ...

Thanks to all for your comments and extra analysis and explanations. :salute:

I am now a firm believer that a self review then getting others to review (which will help future self reviews) is a huge learning tool that I need to start utilizing more.

Analyze my analysis please

This is a little different. I'm working on analyzing my games and this is the first one that I've made the attempt to analyze on my own. So instead of analyzing the game (although you can if you would like) I'm looking more for feedback on my comments. Did I pick the right moves to question, comment ...

Re: September DDK Swiss

Thanks again Dusk Eagle. That helped. And I'm glad to know I wasn't crazy when I saw the A19/T1 moves and wondered what in the ... Knew in the back of my mind those weren't right but maybe there was some secret knowledge I hadn't gained yet.

Sometimes I will try to save a dead group just to see if ...

Re: September DDK Swiss

Once again to thank Dusk Eagle for the comments. I was curious about a couple of things for anyone to answer, instead of H14 at move 14 (the horrible move), what would have been the better alternative if I was trying to protect the upper left? Or should I have gone elsewhere?

I would have never ...
