Re: KGS ranking system

Am I correct that ranking is only important as a guideline to getting decent games? Or that for some it is an endpoint and therefore a source of misplaced pride? Why not avoid the argument altogether by assigning an intuitive rank to yourself, and then not worrying about it? Unless you are a ...

Re: Go Versus - Go website for online competitive play

Thanks for your work on this and advertising it too. It appears you got it right for move submission on cell phones. No, DGS clients dont work so great on all tablets. I have a Nexus 7 tablet and the AnDGS client doesnt work so I just go to the website, although my favorite Go site is www.wuzheng.me ...

Re: Why don't more people use Tygem?

I find it funny that anyone would even bother with "clients" and all that nonsense when there are sites that dont require interfaces and work great on tablets/phones. in fact, kicks ass. Compared to KGS or any other site, there are so many games for easy review on mainland China. A big applause to ...

That's nice. I dont really care. KGS and Kiseido the publisher are both irritating. Ill make sure to avoid both in the future.

Re: Playing different in turn based

I find it ridiculous that a couple players need more patience to perform a correspondence game than a live game. For me, its the opposite. I cannot stand sitting there while the other person is thinking about what to do next, its really really irritating. The nice thing about correspondence is you ...

Re: A new server is being developed: Kaya.gs

I registered the other day at kaya.gs The site admins there are very helpful and allow freedom of speech. This is really really refreshing as opposed to the dictator admins at KGS. One point that could be implemented so kaya works on tablets/phones is a box to input stone coordinates and/or a ...

Re: reflections from a chess grandmaster

Thanks for the feedback, those books do exist on joseki, however given that I have only so much energy I choose mostly to at the moment study L and D problems such as the ones by Cho Chikun. Nevertheless thanks for the encouragement.

Re: Kicked? Banned?

I agree that the KGS server is good that it exists, but due to the arrogance of some of the site admins and players there my experience for the most part has been negative. I stand by the argument that there is no freedom of speech there, ever, and dont ever use the chat rooms unless you have a ...

Re: www.wuzheng.me Free correspondence go server

The "team frighting" bit is the same as "use your brower.", just misunderstood english. The site admin made an attempt for the site to be universal even though it is based in Guangdong. Given that the site is free and the players there are very strong anyone who is smart would not waste their time ...

www.wuzheng.me Free correspondence go server

wuzheng.me is a site in mainland China, with English and chinese available. No software to download, and no time restrictions. Players register for free and can put their rating on and play simply with any phone, pad. This server has many different nice backgrounds for the goban, and the players ...

Re: KGS ranks time-limited?

I think this comment about rating needs to understand why a rating exists: To allow both players to have an enjoyable game that both can learn from. No other reason. Do you make money from having a higher rating? Not likely unless you are a professional. KGS server sucks anyways. Bunch of stuck up ...

Re: Kicked? Banned?

KGS is an openly hostile environment both from the players there and the admins. Dont use the chat feature ever and you wont have to deal with the admins, or only chat in private. And the fact that most players will decline to play makes this site a big waste of time. It feels heavily stuck up there ...

Re: dgs - activity to high

Why not play at a different place? gomatches.com is a site set up by this 23 year old guy in Austria, and wuzheng.me is the best server around for features in mainland China. The players at wuzheng.me are stronger than at dgs too.

Re: Is efficiency sente?

Not always. What is more important is learning how to be true to your own style whatever it may be, but modifying it by what your opponent is doing. For example, if your opponent is extremely reactive to each move, it may be best to make moves that are ambiguous and have many different options, with ...
