Re: Shanghai Go Clubs

At this café there are go players every weekend:

闵行区畹町路99弄247号万科假日风景小区苏豪街弈咖啡

A relaxed atmosphere and quite a few English speakers.

Re: This has been making me lose sleep the past few days...

Greetings! I am a new member and I have been wondering about these two 9x9 openings. Who has the advantage from these two positions, black or white (with 5.5 komi)? I have tried playing against myself and various programs, and my instincts say that on the left white has better positioning, and on ...

Re: Game moves statistics, any program for that ?

There is this paper from last year:

And in PDF-format:

I remember there was a website where you could post a link to your KGS-account in the archives and it would give you statistics for shape and style. And also give you some names of pros who had similar style. They would also estimate your ...

Re: www.Ootakamoku.com - Modern fuseki practice.

You could try and "crowdsource" continuations from strong players.

A lot of times, the most interesting projects are those that let a technical or algorithmic tool enable collaboration.

Yes, I suggested this earlier, especially for 'highly contested positions' i.e. positions where many people ...

I use it to hide my rank from myself in order to not think too much about my rank.

Re: Go Dreams

When I was participating in the World Amateur Pair-Go Championships in Tokyo a few years ago I had a moving dream.

I dreamed that at that tournament a professional player, while discussing a tactical position, came up with an aphoristic way of describing a certain principle that was so full of ...

Re: www.GoBadukWeiqi.com - Fuseki practice.

I really love this initiative, and it's a great tool already. Thanks.

I had an idea as I was browsing through the discussion about some 'wrong' moves that might actually be not so bad. You could create a system where 'highly contested' positions will be saved somewhere for your viewing. Like, let's ...

Megalife (alt. Mega Life, Mega-Life) - Life that cannot be undone even with the opponent playing two moves in a row (i.e. you ignored one move).

This is a great tool for finding killing moves in life and death problems.

Conjecture: "If you can find a move that secures megalife for the opponent ...

Re: How to study Go in Asia?

I am serious about Go, and I want to be the best I possibly can. I was wondering if anyone had any tips, info, ideas, etc. on how to be able to study Go in Japan, China, or Korea. How can I apply for classes, and other things like that? How do I go about at doing this?
