No ingame sound

Hi guys!

I've recently decided to try Tygem. However, I'm unable to get a single sound during my games, which is quite frustrating. No sound stone, no "overtime countdown has begun"... nothing. The only time where I hear sound is from the fainting panda at the end.

Knowing you guy's first question ...

Re: Trying to become pro

Has Leyleth given up or is he just not posting updates here anymore?

I was forced to give up, unfortunately. I spent too much time reading go books and studying go in class. I started to fail. I dropped go and started focusing on my studies. I'm back at playing, but with only a fraction of my ...

Re: New Study Idea

Saturday morning's good for me. If we could agree on an hour, would be awesome (so I can wake myself up in time). Otherwise, I'm 90% sure of oversleeping :P

Name suggestion:
- 2d's study group (since it's our objective)
- L19 study group
- Speeders

Re: New Study Idea

Anytime, anywhere, baby!

Where would we meet and at what time? I cannot be there Sundays since I already have a go club reunion :( However, I'm free during Saturdays.

Maybe we should create a room for this study group. We'll also need to find a name

When you reach 15k, I suggest you ask Dsaun (on KGS) for a teaching game. Should help you a lot.

Canadian Go League game (a.k.a Losing a won game)

Yesterday, I played this game for the canadian go association. I knew my opponent was strong and my chances to win pretty low. However, I decided to go and fight and give everything I had. Here's the result:

Re: Trying to become pro

You could also try reading Takao's Introductory Series. It's in Japanese, but I can send you a gloss to understand the main points, and the problems with solution/failure diagrams speak for themselves. Understanding his guidelines will help you a lot. If you can't find it on Amazon (see my review ...

Re: Trying to become pro

My middle game became very strong. It's the part where I manage to win 90% of my games. However, my fuseki's horrible. I got no idea what to do. 5k's are no longer a challenge for me. I'm ready to move up to 4k.

Anybody has some tips for the fuseki?

I already know:
- Corner-side-center
- largest ...

Re: Trying to become pro

Finally got a teacher! TheWise 6d has accepted me as a student. Hopefully, it will allow me to win in this race to 2d. Lessons start Saturday. However, I've realized something without any exterior help... Playing go after you slept 5h per night since 3 days and after you had a day full of boring ...

Re: Tami's Way

I think that overplaying isn't important as long as your opponent can't punish it (for example, look at handicap games! Even 9p players use overplay to win!)

I had the same problem where I saw my opponent makes a move that should be illegal. When it happens, just look to see if you can punish it ...

Re: Trying to become pro

Since speedchase was mocking me due to my poor tsumego ability, I buyed 1001 Life-and-Death Problems by Richard Bozoulich. Interesting book. I just begun and I got a success rate of 93,75% (after 64 problems). The other book I got is Tesuji by James Davies. This adds up to my "collection" of Attack ...

Re: Trying to become pro

5k KGS!!! (Thank god) I don't see much of a difference from 6 to 5k... So far, 4 wins and no loss as 5th kyu. Let's see how long I can keep this perfect record.

We shall play again sometime. I got stronger (at least, I feel like I did), so it might be a nice one! I won't let you beat me twice in a row, however :D

Re: My study Journal of awesomeness and excitement

I was pretty busy today but I still managed to get in a solid 30 - 45 min of tsumego. The problems are getting harder, and I am slowing down. I only got up to 82 today. I am enjoying this more, especially because when I make a mistake I have gotten into the habit of turning the problem around (ex ...
