Re: Antti Makes it to A class

So ○=win, and ●=loss? I would have thought it's the other way around.

Re: Insei Curriculum

If you're interested in a more detailed view of insei life in genereal, you should also check out Antti Törmänen's blog at m. He's covered his life as an insei with a lot of detail. You may want to start with his 2011 entries, which is when he first became an insei (currently it's his second time ...

I must be missing something here. What's special about a human beating a computer in go?

The Wbaduk event page hasn't been updated after the 3rd round, does somebody know the results / link to sgf's?

Re: Tsumego Pro : Go problems for Android

I tried this out and it looks pretty good. There's one thing missing though: Free navigation. I mean the ability to try out my own variations in a given problem, even when it's not the correct one. Now if I want to play out a variation with a different response than the app automatically gives, I ...

Re: www.Ootakamoku.com - Modern fuseki practice.

I'm with Oota on this - fast switching is what makes it so addictive. If nothing seems to happen, and you just flow to the next board, then clearly, you got the last one right. That's quickly internalized.

I feel I immediately forget the previous position when it suddenly disappears, and most of ...

Re: www.GoBadukWeiqi.com - Fuseki practice.

Looks like a very useful tool for grinding opening positions - i like it!

And here's what I think would make it even better:

1) After a right answer, don't jump to next problem right away. Instead, have a big "next" button on the side and show all the options like with a wrong answer. Only move ...

Re: Amateur vs Professional

In the Western world, the likes of Antti Tormanen started Go too late and in too dire conditions to ever exploit their talent. Sure he has been competitive in Japan, but you can sense from his stories that he would never have made pro. Now that he's returned to Europe, he may be among the ...

Re: Is KGS developement dead or just slow?

I dont know a single go-playing person who would not prefer a stand alone client over browser nonsense. We've talked about kgs and everyone much rather wants an actual client app.

Does anyone know if CGoban3 will continue to work and/or be supported or upgraded once the html5 client finally goes ...

Re: Is KGS developement dead or just slow?

Just chiming in about the sound issue. The moment I don't hear stone placement sound anymore, I stop playing (and observing) games online. For me it is definitely one of the most fundamental things that *must* be there . Without sound it's all too easy to miss when a move has been played on another ...

Re: Place to discuss GO in English?

The stronger you are, the fewer people there are who have the ability to give a good review. And from those who could, many (most?) do their studying outside of these forums/KGS and probably come here for some light banter and not game reviewing.

Re: Nova.gs -- A modern web go server

Just throwing something out here: How about a non-web client?

When it comes to go I have yet to find a web interface I'd prefer over a separate client. I know at least the vocal majority says that a successful modern go server must be web based, but I probably wouldn't even use KGS if not for the ...

Re: Applied value of research

What then do you call, e.g., my increment from 9k to 1k in about half a year? It was so quick, because I studied much go theory (and only a few problems) during that period. The major obstacle during that period was a necessity to learn only from examples about such topics, for which then go ...

Re: Applied value of research

There is no quick and easy way to strength.

In this generality, it is wrong. E.g., there are very quickly improving kyu players.

It is also very misleading, because there are ways to ease improvement and there are ways to greatly accelerate improvement. Except that such ways do not succeed ...

Re: Specific threads suddenly become inaccessible, others ar

Confirming the same ^. This time I changed to 15 posts/page (--> reload threads) and back to 20 --> problem solved.

EDIT: Too quick, the problem persists if I change back to 20 posts/page. I then tried 19, 18, 17 etc. and found that at least "WAGC 2013" thread works at 17 posts/page but not at 18 ...
