I'm planning on being there. I've always wanted to go to a congress that was not tied to a college campus.

Just a bump to remind folks that the SGC Pair Go tournament is happening this weekend.

Also, if you saw the picture above in the AGA journal announcing the tournament, you can now see the rest of the ...

Re: dwm and cgoban3

I am using the same version of Debian, but with XFCE4. I was never able to get Cgoban3 to launch with openjdk7. I finally installed Oracle Java v6, but did not set it as the default with update-alternatives. I created a launcher for Cgoban3 to call Oracle directly so that Cgoban3 runs with the ...

Re: My board arrived - cleaning / oiling?

At the SGC we have been using a mild mix of baking soda and water (a few teaspoons to a quart) to clean our boards. Wet a clean cloth with the mixture and scrub. It takes a lot of elbow grease, but it doesn't damage the wood or the lines.

Re: Cross-platform password manager recommendations?

I've been using keepass for a few years now, and have no complaints. There is a portable version, as well as versions for various platforms.
I vote for keepass as well. A nice feature is that you can sync databases between platforms, so I have the Linux version at home sync to the Android version ...

It just proves my point. Weak/boring players have the nicest Go sets. The stronger/more interesting the player, the crappier the board

Re: First sentence about go

I also think keeping it simple is best. If I need to introduce the game, which I do sometimes when the SGC is doing public outreach, I usually say: "Go was invented in China over 4000 years ago, Some of the first written records found in China mention the game. It was also popular in Japan during ...

Re: Learn Korean Easy!

This gives me a chance to plug my all time favorite Korean historical drama Tree with Deep Roots . The plot is so twisted and complex that I can not describe it completely, but the main story concerns conspiracies and assassinations surrounding the creation of the Korean alphabet. Complex and subtle ...

Re: MoyoGo available again

I apologize for the flame war in advance, but I can not let a MoyoGo thread go by without mentioning that anyone who enjoys this software should also buy a copy of GoGoD . Unless the collection of games distributed with MoyoGo has changed, most of the SGF files included are lifted from the GoGoD ...
