Re: GoPanda 2 browser client

It is open source?

IF so where can this be found?

Afaik, since nngs they have not made the source or even the protocol generally available.
Perhaps on request, subject to approval by Panda?

Re: GoPanda 2 browser client

Why should I care?

Good question.

Why should anyone care about anything?
Why does anyone care about anything?

This is an open forum on the topic of Go.

Presumably the "developers" read about what people are saying, and care about what users
want or need? Or are they just developing something ...

Re: GoPanda 2 browser client

I think Ed's point is that it isn't objective at all, it's a subjective value assessment. You are dismssing the viewpoint that "the aesthetics is crucial to want to use a client, whereas functionality (beyond "I can connect and play games") is only desirable". Is that because you think it's ...

Re: GoPanda 2 browser client

Ed,

I said I was going to stop, but your writing makes me want to explain.

Let's recap.

GoPanda is essentially a stripped down minimalist client. Good looking or not. Let's avoid that issue for the moment.

GoPandaII is being developed now, it seems. I have no first hand information.

Now, go ...

Re: GoPanda 2 browser client

dear sir,

why do you persist in beating your horse?

NOBODY SUGGESTED MAKING A MODERN CLIENT THAT LOOKS LIKE ****!

Ok?

Enough already.

Re: GoPanda 2 browser client

Yes, it nice to start with a good looking approach.
Assuming the path is from [appearance}--->[function], then other than what is done first, it makes
little difference IF one is successful.

While it is possible to go from an aesthetically pleasing design to a finished product, frequently is
is ...

Re: GoPanda 2 browser client

EdLee, I give up.

If you do not understand that that is 15 year old software and can't get past that idea and stop
talking about how IT looks, then there is no way to hold a reasonable conversation.

Are you one of the developers of GoPanda2??

If so, please take the time to reconsider your ...

Re: GoPanda 2 browser client

Ok, here is the not very good and old bitmapped stones, but showing the menu for customizing to
whatever you prefer... photoshop would make it possible to shoot ur own stones, if you wanted to...etc.

And, EdLee, sorry to come at you with this, but when you said that you couldn't bear to look at the ...

Re: GoPanda 2 browser client

EdLee, you have apparently misunderstood what I was saying.

The thrust is to get the fucntionality first, then get the aesthetics correct.

Winigc permitted the changing of the board background pattern. You could have taken a jpeg
of real wood and put it in, if you wanted to go to the effort. Also ...

Re: GoPanda 2 browser client

I have attached two screen grabs in what is my screens full res, as I see it.
It's 1480 wide on this laptop.

The first is the "normal" screen without a game up, showing unfiltered player list, and
not many things happening on the main terminal screen. That could include shouts, tells, and channel ...

Re: GoPanda 2 browser client

At the risk of being stoned to death here. Good pun, eh?

To the developers.

Yes, the page you show has wonderful "eye candy".

However, please spend the time on utility first, then worry about the aesthetics.
By utility, I mean that the client or program, whatever it is, should incorporate ALL of ...

Re: Marble goban

The problem with marble and other stone surfaces is hardness.

It can shatter glass stones, and destroy real slate and shell stones.
This may be the main reason that boards have traditionally not been made from either stone nor metal. The technology to make both has been around for a long long time ...
