Havannah Man-vs-Machine Challenge

Since Havannah has a certain affinity with Go, and since attempts to program either are relatively successful, this match may be of some interest to some players in the Go community :grumpy: .

Re: An offbeat alternative to komi

It's only fair as long as you assume perfect play
edit: and that komi is half the value of the first move. I'm not quite sure in reply to which post this is but I agree about the komi .

To illustrate Symple's balancing mechanism, we're conveniently presented with a kind of Bobby Fischer of Symple ...

Re: An offbeat alternative to komi

Luigi's idea may well be worth considering, given the response, but it emerged in Symple and was immediately afterwards used in Sygo . Both games allow multiple placements per turn (with each placement the growth of an existing group), OR a single placement (which must be the start of a new group ...

Re: dispute resumption rules and ko

Let me add that when I learned go we did not have passes. Games ended by agreement. We did not have any problems with that, but in the history of go problems occasionally arose. With fair play in the spirit of the game, players need little formalization. But it's not always like that. In the ...

Re: More Sygo thoughts

For the reasons in the above paragraph, I think it's unwise to call Sygo a Go variant (I don't know if Christian ever did that). Fighting is far too different, and middle-late game invasions are so much less likely that there's not so much in common (unlike, say, Redstone). That's neither good nor ...

Re: Oust - Corey vs Mark Steere

I knew you'd crack eventually

For those who don't understand, me being one of them, Christian is tormented by my motto, finite games rule .
What language is that supposed to be?
My guess would be English. As to the content, rest assured that I'm quite untormented and that none of the games that ...

Re: Oust - Mark Steere vs Topazg

I think square Oust may be more interesting than hex Oust in some ways, difficult to describe. I played a little square Oust, then played a whole lot of hex Oust, and now coming back to the square version, I'm seeing the differences more clearly. The way sente sometimes swings back and forth here ...
