Re: A question about handicaps
I just think it is kind of a personal thing if you like the system or not. Saying "you have to make handicap games, otherwise no one is having fun" doesn't convince me at all.
For example, when I played chess tournaments, I always looked forward to the games against stronger players, sometimes way ...

Re: A question about handicaps
No disrespect intended, but this is a sign of a lack of understanding of the McMahon system
After each game the handicap is recalculated, and in my experience most UK tournaments are at handicap -1. So, in this case, you'll have 7 people on 1 point and the trickster on -1. By normal tournament ...

Re: A question about handicaps
What's important is that the 3 kyu played a stronger game than his usual, and the 2d played a worse game than his usual. The winner of the tournament is the player who played best relative to his usual strength. You think that means nothing? If playing well can only be measured in absolute terms ...

Re: Where did I lose?
Thanks, mitsun
So I actually lost the game in the endgame? That kinda sucks
Another question: While playing, I thought the situation after the two little fights with my weak groups on the bottom was bad for me, however, when I reviewed it, it didn't look that bad. Was I behind at that point?

Re: A question about handicaps
Of course, for playing on KGS or any other "normal" game, giving handicap can be a good thing. The games become closer, the weaker player learns more, the stronger player needs to concentrate and find the best moves, too, etc.
But when it comes to something like tournament games, I just don't ...

Re: A question about handicaps
Not having played a single real life tournament, I don't like the idea of giving handicap in competitive play. It sounds stupid to me that a 6kyu has the same chances to win a tournament as a 2d, because he gets 8 stones handicap. What's the point in becoming good then, anyway? The better player is ...

Re: Where did I lose?
I just noticed: after filling out M14 dame there is still something in the corner, because of the atari at P14 and R16... I wonder if my opponent would have seen that..
Edit:
@ Joaz Banbeck
*sigh* I'm somehow bad at killing dead groups..
But thanks, now I can see it as well.

Where did I lose?
I didn't have much time to play last month, but I decided to play today, because I had a few hours of freetime. The game was against a 4k and I did only spot one possible mistake which is taking the ko in the upper left corner. I'm not really sure about that one, though. In the game I thought making ...

Re: Game For Review
I'm only 6k KGS, so I may not know as much as other people around here, but this is what I think:
First of all, you shouldn't think things like "I should attack his weakest group". Unless you're really behind in territory and have to try something, that is. Why not? Because the (in your eyes ...

Re: Close win against a 5k
Thanks so far
seems like I'm still missing rather obvious moves. Well, I'm still a kyu
My goal is to make it to 1 dan by the end of this year.. Let's see if I can do that

Close win against a 5k
I'm posting another game here because it was a game where I messed up some things in the beginning (I REALLY need to learn some early-game-related stuff ) and made mistakes throughout the game. I was far behind at some stages, until I caught up in the endgame. I probably still would've lost if my ...

Re: Piracy On Life In 19x19?
Are you serious or are you just trying to stir people? Unfortunately we don't live in the world of unicorns and rainbow expressways. This Korean company has a valuable asset that costs a lot to produce. It's perfectly reasonable for them to want to get a return on investment and expand their ...
