Re: Where did I go wrong? (5k v 6k)

Happy New Year everyone!!

You guys were so helpful I thought I'd come back and ask for more help. :D

Again, I'm not sure where I went wrong. Did I handle the top right well? What could I have done better there? I don't seem to do well ...

Re: Where did I go wrong? (5k v 6k)

Thanks so much for your help guys. It seems that some of the common threads here are that I don't value corners enough and I play a little over-ambitiously. If I'm correct, only one of my moves that you reviewed, Joaz, was slow.

ez4u, I can't believe I didn't see that opportunity at the end ...

Where did I go wrong? (5k v 6k)

Hey gang. I just played this game and I thought I did quite well until I lost (granted, by only 6.5 points I think). Still, I felt good all the way. Where did I go wrong? I'm white.

Go players in Baku?

I'm an American in Baku, Azerbaijan for the summer and I was wondering if anyone has any leads on Go players in Baku. My Google-fu is not sophisticated enough.

Re:

Can someone help me with where I went wrong? Yes. Things like :b27: (as m42 noted), and :b29:, :b31:, :b33: -- what were you doing with this group? You just gave W a ton of points for nothing! :)

I was hoping that I could somehow capture white's group but, yeah, I had no exit strategy for my ...

Re: 7k vs 7k: Where did I go wrong?

:b23: @ s7 is better. It is a better move to remove aji.
:b27: is no good, I think the result shows that. If you want to atari that stone, play o6 then tenuki.
:b43: is better at b18 to keep the pressure on white's group.
:b73: is certainly overplay. You should probably just defend yourself at m17 ...

7k vs 7k: Where did I go wrong?

I thought this was a closer game than it was... I was beat by 50 points! Can someone help me with where I went wrong? Meanwhile I'm off to continue studying life and death... :study:

Re: Depression and go

I'm so glad I stumbled on this topic! If you all will indulge me, I'd like to relate my story since Go and depression are so intertwined, in an unexpected way:

Last fall (late September, early October), I was struck with a serious depression that forced me to take a leave of absence for a full year ...

How? By filling in at R13?
Nope, keep thinking.
Oh, T12, huh? That's the sort of move I wish I could see more quickly... :-?

Re: How do I keep my groups alive?

Well, in this game, you have a lot of time and you don't use it. You play the crucial moves 128-136 in less than thirty seconds in a game where you still have 17 + 5x:30 on the clock. So take your time. I doubt you'd have trouble seeing that the white group is in jeopardy if you played carefully ...

Re: How do I keep my groups alive?

Yeah, see, that's the thing. I have a couple books and have attempted a few problem sets from them but I get so bored so fast. I'd much rather be playing. All the progress I've made so far has been just from playing so every time I have a spare minute and say, "Time for go!", I need to choose ...

How do I keep my groups alive?

Hi everyone,
First time posting, long time lurker here. I've been steadily improving for the last six months or so but I seem to have hit a plateau at 8 kyu (KGS). I feel like my big stumbling block right now (aside from, oh I don't know, everything ) is keeping groups alive and knowing when they're ...
