I'm not sure what the best place to put this is. Ideally I would have made a new thread, but that doesn't seem appropriate in this forum, and the topic doesn't seem appropriate for another forum. So here it is.
I had this idea of a Malkovich-based teaching game. The idea would be to get one ...

Re: Greatest Handicap Youâve Played Or Played Against?
Today, at our local Go playing evening I told the other players that I had found out how to place the stones above 9 HC … and then another player and I played a 21-Handicap game, just for the fun of it.

Re: Introduction to fighting
Keep playing! Remember the 100 games rule. If you can't prune the tree at all when reading, you'll benefit more from practice than from anything else. Easy tsumego will help too; try the beginner collection on sensei's library.

Re: Why don't more people use Tygem?
Because there appears to be a strange GUI bug where the resign button isn't clickable for any of my opponents.
The resign button only appears when you're ready to go to counting :p
Joking aside, the only bug I see sometimes is the bug where the opponent resigns and leaves immediately but the ...

Play on Tygem. Every game is just a huge massive fight. Practice makes perfect, I guess?

Why don't more people use Tygem?
I just played on it for the first time the other day, and I don't understand why it doesn't have a stronger US community. The client is great, it has a native iPad client (!) that doesn't require you to jump through hoops like KGS does, and most importantly, it's got developers who actually seem to ...

Re: e-book reader Rumour
This doesn't answer the question though. What we really want to know is what Slate and Shell is hinting about for a cross platform solution.
What I found curious is that I don't see how a cross-platform go playing "program" would help in any way with reading a book. There are plenty of cross ...

Re: Me (7-9k) vs. 2-4k
That's better than what I found, but I wonder if L13 would be a better response for white than L12. Your sequence would then become:
N13, N14, M12, L13, L12, K12.
from here, I think white will be able to finish the cut, although there are quite a few variations.

Me (7-9k) vs. 2-4k
This is a game I played against an unranked player who I believe to be somewhere around 2-4k based on his game history. I hate listing my ranking as 7-9k because I play really sporadically. In this game, I feel like I played at a strength close to that of my opponent until somewhere in the midgame ...

Re: Go Courtesy
Depending on how terribly obvious (or unobvious) it is that that the group cannot be invaded in any meaningful way, sometimes people just aren't strong enough to know with 100% certainty that a group is fully secure.

Re: Flattened handicaps
The entire basis of the rating system is based on the handicap system. The definition of a strength difference of "2" (e.g. 6k vs 8k, 7d vs 5d) is that with a 2-stone handicap you will win 50% of the time.
So sure, you can play with more relaxed handicap rules and there's nothing wrong with that ...

And before someones says: "Jeez, Joaz! Are you really that simple-minded and trite?", I should mention that the quote above is a composite generated from an amalgam of managers and owners in my and other's businesses over the years.

Re: Flattened handicaps
On go servers like KGS, the system defaults to giving you full handicaps--a 3d player gives a 1d two stones (I believe that on either OGS or DGS, the system goes further, adjusting komi up or down to give handicaps that are even more accurate).

Re: Disdain for Internet Go
In terms of the game, I prefer Internet go. I feel I can concentrate better.
If I want a social experience, then I prefer face-to-face playing. But for some reason, it's harder for me to take that as seriously.
I'm the exact opposite. I feel my internet strength is about 2-3 stones weaker than ...
