If you try to run it in a terminal you should get an error message that will let you know what's missing.
I was installing it on ubuntu recently and I was missing libudev.so.0, which I think is outdated, synaptic has libudev1 but not libudev0. I just ended up searching packages.ubuntu.com (just be ...

Re: Does losing hurt?
Losing can hurt, but it does not always. I attribute this to my state of mind going into the game. If I play when stressed out, I find I look at the game as a temporary escape from the pressures of life. I invest more than I should in the hope of winning, and should I lose, it can be devastating. If ...

Re: Beijing
I'm spending the summer in Beijing. Been here a month so far, and I have another month before I go home. I wouldn't mind stopping by a few times (as if I don't get enough go during the day, being here on the trip JeffChang organizes).

Re: The Driving Force
Secondly, I'm hesitant to think that go, as a form of meditation, has any merits that can't be done better with "regular" meditation.
I won't argue with that. However, taking an activity that is nerve-racking and turning it into something calm will have some meditative qualities. Also, being that ...

Re: The Driving Force
I strive to become better simply because it is worthwhile.
My hobbies are rather limited. Video games, anime/manga, taichi, and go. It would be truthful to say that taichi and go are the only of my hobbies that I stand to gain any real benefit from improving in. But it goes beyond that.

Re: What neck of the woods are you from?
Born in England, but when I was only about a year and half I moved to Delaware. Lived there for about 5 years, then moved to Massachusetts. A couple years later I moved to Maine, where all my family is from. And I have been trapped here ever since.

Re: Can you be a pro?
No, I have never actually thought I could go pro. However, I will maintain the stubborn delusion of being able to reach pro strength for the rest of my life.

Re: Where do you travel?
I've never really done any traveling. I was born in England, but moved to the US before I was old enough to remember anything. As a kid every vacation my family ever took was to visit family in Maine, where I live now. I haven't taken a single vacation in my 16 years living in Maine. But that's ...
Re: The Gym
For a long time I really did no exercise aside from occasionally walking a few miles out in the woods. Last semester I took up fencing, but only once a week. The time that people met for it wasn't very convenient, so I stopped. About two months ago I took up taichi. I'm fortunate enough to have ...

Reintroduction, yay
Hello everybody. I've been on a stress-induced break from go, so for the most part I missed the GD issues that pushed people over the edge to come here, but here I am.
My name is Tom, and I am from Maine (not to be confused with the other go-playing Tom from Maine). I've been playing go since the ...

Re: Useful books to become stronger
I have never read any go books that created any huge leap in rank. And I think the book that helped me the most was actually a tsumego book. Weiqi Rapid Drill 800 Problems (围棋快速练习800题). The thing that made this book great was that it was the first tsumego book I have read that seemed to perfectly ...

Re: Tomadoi Rain - Hikaru no Go
I hadn't heard of RainyMood before, but it seems to suit my constant desire for white noise rather well (I frequently have a fan going, even in the winter). I always listen to music when playing go, I think I'll try this along with it. I'll probably listen to it when studying as well.

Re: lines and hoshi elevated?
I was kind of surprised at the raised lines when I got my board from Shodan Imports. Then I remembered a mention of the lines being raised in a discussion on the darkening of katsura boards with age. It would be nice if the star points would wear down a little, and I'm glad to hear that it will ...
