How much do you have to like something to like it.
I do not understand the question. You like something if and only if you like it. Some people 'like' often, some rarely; sometimes out of custom, sometimes genuinely. In this way, L19 mirrors the real world rather well. The quickest way to turn ...

Re: Thinking of learning Chinese (or Japanese)

As an example of how hanja can help to clear up ambiguity, many homophones are written in hangul as 수도 (sudo), including:

Does this remain true if my primary interest is reading, not conversation?

am I right in thinking that Korean might be slightly more managaeable to learn a bit of, since it has a phonetic alphabet?

I do try to find something to turn the tide on this game however it's looking more and more like a fill in the blanks end game.

We're all a little weird here. Also I can barely tell you're not a native speaker.

Re: Disaster against CrazyStone
The bot seems much stronger than you currently. (Don't be disheartened by this: bots are very good at calculation, so it's rather difficult to make one that is below 15 kyu unless it plays completely randomly.) Maybe try to find some opponents of around your strength online.

Just a quick thought on the Chinese character issue, from a Japanese-learner perspective. (The Japanese and Chinese writing systems overlap a lot - it's about their only common feature!)

Re: Thinking of learning Chinese (or Japanese)
There seem to be a lot of people talking about Chinese here. I learn Japanese. Here are some of my general thoughts on a few of the things that have been mentioned in this thread, from my own perspective. (I normally wouldn't be arrogant enough to put them in ranty FAQ format - forgive me for that ...
