Re: CoD - BlOps2

Playing on Xbox and really enjoying it. Like all multiplayer games it's only good with buddies.

I find like-minded players through Gunslingergaming.com

Re: Etiquette: When to pass? (i.e. how long to play on)

You really have to be careful. Sometimes your opponent sees weakness that you don't, and sometimes they can take profit from a failed invasion. I was behind in this game so I played move 178. It didn't work but instead of abandoning it I kept reading it to see if I could do anything with it. I read ...

Re: realistic beginner expectations

If you're not Shodan by the end of the week, quit.

Seriously though, while I can't honestly preach against measuring oneself since I'm also guilty of it, your goal for the next 6 months should be to still love the game as much as, if not more than, you do now.

However, sometimes when you're losing ...

Re: What was the impact of HNG on your interest in Go?

I was into Go before finding HNG. My option would be: I was into Go and that made me interested in HNG.

Re: Win or Lose?

I'm sorry Oldyew, your numbers are off. If I play 19 players twice and lose both times I'll have 28.5 points. The second loss is only .5 points, not 1 point.

However, that doesn't really matter. What matters is that the ASR isn't really a competitive league. If you want a competitive league find ...

Re: Why don't more people use Tygem?

I dislike sandbaggers because when I want to play an even game against someone of my level I don't want it to turn out to be a sandbagger.

If I'm going to play against a stronger opponent I'd rather get a review afterwards from that opponent. A true sandbagger doesn't tend to give reviews.

Going in reverse order:

EdLee: I see why w114 was bad, I got really lucky there. I don't see the issue with 156.

Emeraldemon:

#4 is something I've had trouble with. I like to open with a 4-4 followed by a 3-4. The intention is to become familiar with these instead of doing random stuff all the ...

CLIG Game

Although I won this game I'd love a review. This was for the Canadian League Internet Go league. I felt very behind in the beginning.

Re: Firewall issue with CGoban, KGS, Zonealarm

Years ago when I worked at a cable internet support call center I spoke with a gentleman who couldn't connect to his vpn suddenly. He didn't have a firewall but he could contact everything but his vpn.

Turns out he had uninstalled Zone Alarm a week ago. Reinstalled Zone Alarm, completely disabled ...

That is silly.

I went to mine and had a good time. It's a small club, only 3 regulars it looks like. I haven't been back recently which sucks.

Re: Flattened handicaps

Tradition and consistency.

When a stronger player gives a handicap they've put themselves in a situation where they are behind on the board. This is a situation you can get yourself into during the course of a game so practice against it is important. The weaker player must make proper use of the ...

Re: Seeking someone to sharpen iron with.

Look for me on KGS but I would also recommend joining the Advanced Study Room. Signups have started for October and it's a great way to play even games against stronger opponents and get reviews.
